I think "a year's a long time you're doing nothing with your life" could be a dig at The View's lyrics from 'Same Jeans', they would certainly qualify as one of the lazy indie bands the Cribs are attacking here. |

This guy wants to find someone but he's repelled by "those guys" who don't care about women's feelings and just want to have sex. It's "closing time" though and he has to decide whether he's gonna be one of them, "you still have to try" and "I just can't do nothing", and have a meaningless night or go home alone. |
