| Saw these guys live last weekend, and when they did this song they changed the line "It seems like yesterday I was fading" to "It seems like yesterday that you raped me", which definitely changes the tone of the song for me. I could almost see it being about him being sexually abused as a child, but certain lyrics don't make sense. ("Give me one last kiss" doesn't seem like something you'd say to someone who molested you.) Either way, live it's definitely a very, very angry, emotionally charged song. | |

The official lyrics haven't been released yet, but I'm pretty sure these are right. I'm not 100% positive, but I know they're definitely closer than the ones posted originally. Of all those words you could have chose You just sat there silent Of all those things I should have known You just smiled and held your breath You said these words would never save you You said these lines could never change you I know it means nothing to you God it means everything to me Cause I'm out here, still broken Selling my soul so you would never end up alone I'm focused enough to notice you Had versions of the truth One moment, it's over Hold back my fear cause I'm about to let go Words so hard Never let them know About the four letter words Behind the faces you show You were lost, but you were home You were drenched in violence You were changed and all alone They saved your life but kept you here You said these words would never save you You said these lines can never change you I know it means nothing to you God it means everything to me Cause I'm out here, still broken Selling my soul so you would never end up alone I'm focused enough to notice you Had versions of the truth One moment, it's over Hold back my fear cause I'm about to let go Words so hard Never let them know About the four letter words Behind the faces you show I pulled you closer to me I held you down for so long I felt when you couldn't breathe I was there when it went wrong Cause I'm out here, still broken Selling my soul so you would never end up alone I'm focused enough to notice you Had versions of the truth One moment, it's over Hold back my fear cause I'm about to let go Words so hard Never let them know About the four letter words Behind the faces you show Behind the faces you show |

When I saw them in concert Cris described it as being about "a friend that's always been there for you even when you screw them over". It makes sense, but not totally because it doesn't seem like the person is there anymore in this song. My take is he screwed up, the other person ended the relationship, he realized he was wrong, is apologizing, hoping they will forgive him, but even if they don't, he wants them to know how important they were to him/how much they changed his life. |

I think it's about a parent that was either abusive, or just didn't care (a parent rather than a romantic relationship, because really, how many guys sit on their girlfriends' laps?). "I'd rather die than disappoint you", "all I wanted from you was to love me" -- he just wanted their approval and love, and he didn't get it. "For me to be free from you, I must be free from me" -- he has to get away from them and stop trying to please them to live his own life and be happy. "Feels like your Son of God just reached out and grabbed me" (until the very end it says "your", not "the", which has an entirely different meaning) -- makes me think that religion was involved somehow. He didn't believe in their religion, or maybe he did something that was against it. |

A relationship with someone his family/friends disapprove of is what makes the most sense to me. I think it being about drugs is an interesting theory, but some of the lyrics don't really seem to fit. What they disapprove of/are disappointed by, I'm not sure. It sounds sorta like he's holding on to a relationship that's pretty much over and people are disappointed that he's not letting go. Or possibly the person he loved died, and he's not moving on? Or it could just be a relationship that's forbidden for whatever reason--I agree with spike69 that he could be gay. Aside from their songs all being open to interpretation, none of them mention a female in any way--no "she" or "her" or "girl" or anything, it's always "you". I feel like the title is the key. It seems to have nothing to do with the song, but I think it's gotta mean something. |
