I believe this song is about the end of the world. "Darkness is beginning, the sun's burnt out" it says somewhere in revelation about the world being covered in darkness. "No more beautiful, no more life." People take the sinful way we live in for granted so their "beautiful" way of life ends right there and they'll suffer through whats comin in the end. "Futile to try and stop this, your time is up." you cant change the way you lived, your done. Thats jus my take though

Before i start, I have to say this has the best intro I've ever heard! To me, it means he's struggling with deciding whether or not to commit suicide hence the line "A tongue tied explanation raining down from scattered thoughts", and in the end does. He uses pronouns different though as in the line "The life you knew will disappear" as to "I will leave this world behind". It's like theres someone else... Those are just my thoughts though.
