I don't think anyone holds the profound meaning of this song, and I certainly don't. I'm very fond of this song though, really, and it just happened that when I discovered this album, I was reading Wuthering Heights, that I love very dearly too. So to me, this is Heathcliff's song, at the end of the book, when he has been waiting for so long to see the appearance of Catherine's ghost and he starts to believe he can feel feel her presence (But when I get to the doorway / There's no one in sight). He just wants to be freed from his body to join her her in the afterlife... and he finally is :). |
