Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Where the Wild Roses Grow (feat. Kylie Minogue) Lyrics 18 years ago
I always considered the chorus:

"They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day"

To be representative of her confusion as to why she as a person is objectified by being compared to a pretty object. Perhaps being found physically attractive by most everyone has led to a confusion in identity between "The Wild Rose" and "Elisa Day."

The murderer is taking the idea of the "Wild Rose" to an extreme and killing her without thought for "Elisa Day"

I dunno, classic song though.

I agree, but I also think it could doubly refer to "The Velveteen Rabbit," which is a book where a boys beloved toy rabbit gets thrown away because the boy gets some sort of infectious disease.

Now if I could figure out a double meaning to the bit about the bok choy legs.....
