I always thought this song was kinda dissing artists who make really simple, happy sounding songs like this one. this song sounds like something that would get played on the radio 50 times a day, and maynard just put stupid lyrics in |

Dont know if anyone has said the X at the very beggining of the song is slang for ecstacy |

This song is pretty basic to me. It's about being taken advantage by someone and wishing that the things they took from you would turn against them ("I hope you choke") This song kind of ruined the album though. It's a good song and all but it doesnt belong on lateralus. The rest of the album is so out there, talking about aliens and planets and shit. This song was too real |

I always thought of this song as just being a metalhead and the energy you get from listing to metal, or better yet, jamming to it. Metallica is good at taking a simple idea and making it sound really epic. |

I think its about how there are alot of different people in the world that we sould have compassion for and that the idea of oppressing people who are different is stupid and they make it sound more stupid by using trees instead of humans. |

One part of this song really stuck with me (Don't usually like to quote, but this song is bottom of the ocean deep, so its nessesary).
"Over thinking, over analyzing, separate the body from the mind
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment, drawing way outside the lines"
That made me think of some of our fellow tool fans, who look into every nook and cranny of Maynards lyrics. People like this are often called critical thinkers, and they dwell on a subject, but dont really put any of their own thought into it. I knew of the term 'linear thinking", which is someone who goes with the wheels of society, and never question.
I dont know if anyone contributed this yet (there are ALOT of comments for this song), but there is also a lateral thought prosses, and it involves a constant thought processes of finding ways to improve existing ideas.
I doubt that is the main idea for the song. It's only that part that I based the idea on. The rest of the song is a little spacy, but, as most of us know, Tool songs are heavily layered. Im pretty sure this was at least an inspiration for the song. |

I think this is one of the hardest tool songs to understand. I personally think its about the conscience. I think the snake in this song is like the little devil on your shoulder and the "Blood before me" is someone in your family who is a young, innocent person (most likely Devo, in Maynards case), who is like the little angel on your shoulder |

Really cool song. Drags on in some parts, but still cool. I think this song is supposed to be how hallucigens (like LSD) often give people this delusion that they are discovering the meaning of life or some stupid shit, but when they come down they can never remember what the hell they were talking about. |

everytime I hear this song I NEED to listin to the whole thing. Maynard talks about spirals alot in thing song, so I think the song is like living your life like a spiral, always growing and flourishing, reaching into the unknown |

This is a good song as well but when I first listened to lateralus, I was really calmed after listing to parabol then it snappped into this song and really startled me |

This is a good meditating song. I believe its about reincarnation, but more importantly, being in a depressed and suicidal state of mind. Your soul is telling you to keep on living, because a soul is nothing without a body holding it |

Guitar sounds really cool. I think Kirk used a Fender Tricaster and its hard to get the same sound using any other guitar |

If tool makes another album, danny should use the electric drums more. The drums on this album were shit compared to lateralus |
