| The Mountain Goats – Quito Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
i should preface this by saying that im somebody who loves the mountain goats to death but knows close to nothing about the bible. that being said this song struck me as being about jesus. i know john's biblical references tend to be a bit deeper, but i feel there are numerous references here. "I will raise an ice cold glass of water", being that jesus turned water into wine this seems like a reference to a toast. "my children all are going to greet me at the station... like gypsies they will sing and dance around me"-- jesus' resurrection and the peoples' response. "when i wave my magic wand" the way people few the song of god as an omnipotent being I'm not arguing that i'm necessarily right as many of your arguments seem more accurate than mine, but i was curious if anyone interpreted this as i did... |

| Defiance, Ohio – The New World Order Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If you had to label this pro or anti something, it would definitly be anti-religion. And even that isn't quite right. It seems to be saying that the ideals that let you sleep at night, are the same ones that cause "some to starve". It is definitly not Pro-bush, but its not anti-bush in the way that it's not a protest song. One interpretation that can be used in many of their songs is that you should think before just accepting things, such as religion and prayer in this case. "And you swallow without thinking" (lambs at the slaughter) | |

| awesome song, i think this album is fucking great. Its hard to compare it to their other stuff though because everything they do is just awesome. This song, Eureka, and The things we won't let settle but set are my personal favorites off the new album | |
| Against Me! – Reinventing Axl Rose Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| its been said numerous times. but i honestly beiieve that i wont ever be as happy as i was in a chorus of an against me! song. wether it be this, walking is still honest, or my personal favorite, we laugh at danger. I would love nothing more than for these guys to make an awful record, lose their post-clarity mtv watching fans, and come back to us. To their real fans who may not have been in the laundry mat, but still feel an ubelievable connection. | |
| Against Me! – 8 Full Hours of Sleep Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| 3/4 times against me has closed albums with slow songs. The exception being you look like i need a drink off eterna cowboy. But none of them can ever top this. The tittle track off searching for a former clarity and the ocean off of new wave are the other two...Not even close | |
| Against Me! – Up the Cuts Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
lets not trick ourselves. Theyre not the same band. Reinventing axl rose was in my personal opinion the greatest album ever made. New wave is...adequet, bland, and nothing to remember. This would be fine if it wasnt everything against me! isnt. I think that some of the songs on this album fit into the catagory of the type of music tom is sick of hearing. I turn on the TV, watch music on television. Have I heard this song before? Did this already happen? I hate to admit it, but against me! was on mtv last night, and they didnt burn it down, they didnt tear it up, they played in the backround of the hills. |

| I saw them live in november at terminal 5, they went off stage before the encore and the crowd started singing this with every line more and more people's voices rose, they come back on and tom plays baby im an anarchist accoustic and then they play what we worked for, a feeling of calm went over teh crowd cause everyone of us knew what was next. It was the single greatest moment of my life that i cant even describe. scalewagjim is right, i have never felt closer to people i didnt know. it was fist pumping, sweat splashing, heaven and i highly recommend seeing them live | |
| Against Me! – I Still Love You Julie (Hanging on for a Scam) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| WorldInferno (saw them on saturday with agianst me btw) is right. When they say "Not Gonna call everyone on their shit tonight" it almost seems like theyre on stage and they get the feeling half the people their are just trying to be part of a scene. "Even though half you fucking people wouldn't even smile if we passed on the street" from those two lines it sounds like tom was feeling he was singing to a crowd of (hate to use the word) posers. | |
| Against Me! – Burn Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Awesome fucking song, has anyone noticed that Tom uses bottled water as a reference to something mainstream and corporate. In Tonight We Give It 35% he talks about drinking bottled water with people he doesn't want to associate with. and in this: There are already businessmen who'll market bottled water Any insight or am I stating something obvious? |
