between the bars is about alcohol and his girlfriend. He cant decide which he likes more alcohol or his girlfriend He basically talks about how alcohol will tempt him. "Drink up one more time and ill make you mine" - do it again and you cant go back to your girlfriend "where i see you there with your hands in the air" - he notices that she wants attention but he wont give it to her "people around before that you dont want anymore" - basically saying he is pushing people away for alcohol very deep in meaning writes it so beautifully and hides it in his song, only hints at it slighly (elliott at his best) |

i dont think independence day is any of that. i think it means: elliott is talking about his drug problem and wanting to be free. "dont go to far, stay who you are" - he is saying loose the drug problem but keep you individuality "i saw you in a perfect place" - he's envisioning himself without the drug problem as being perfect "go to sleep, and make the change ill meet you here tomorrow" - when he changes he'll still be the same person do the ame stuff (thats why he says ill meet you here tomorrow) |

no i dont think its romantic at all, i dont think its about jail bars, or johnny red it thinks about an addiction and failing to quit his addiction "drink up baby"- im indulging myself "the potential youll be, that youll never see" - what he could be with out the addiction "promises youll only make" - he cant keep his promises " forget all about, the pressures of day, do what i say" - its his relief and his desires are caving in "drive them away" - his problems etc. its probably about alcohol |
