i also always felt it was about the songs. but it seemed like he was talking to the fans. (though i can agree with kevsp87.) of course after a few months i began thinking there was actually a lot behind the "simpler songs" of the green album. and simple pages was the first song trying to tell me just that. |

Try this: picture all the events (lines) as John's way of hiding his guilt. Though he reveals the affair, he makes himself seem so innocent, and that, alone, is why i love this song. From the very beginning he takes back his first line, turning it around to where it's like he did nothing. And he uses everything like descriptive diversions, excuses of no chair, and a passive behavior. I have a devious smile everytime i listen to this song. The best line has to be "biding my time." |
