im pretty sure that nathan's lyrics and erik's keyboards are DEFINITELY intended to call up nintendo imagery, but the lyrics are used as metaphors for real life situations. its just stupid to think a band this amazingly talented could actually just be singig about mega-man. they remind me a lot of the aquabats, actually, with silly references, but each with a deeper meaning hidden just beneath the surface. |

i think this song is the most intense thing i've ever heard. it seems to be about time being a circle, like the album, ever notice how the wind is the same at the beginning and the end of the album?it would make sense with lyrics like "tomorrow is the past" and "dinosaurs now new" also, event horizon probably refers to black holes, the event horizon being the point at which not even light can escape the incredible gravity. many people believe the ultimate fate of the universe is to eventually be swallowed by black holes. which would then explode, release all the matter of the universe in one instant, a new big bang (event horizon boom!!!) and a new universe. just my thoughts... |

such a good song... it just makes you realize how useless humans are without their guns and cities. in nature the bear is the dominant species, the other animals can do nothing to protect themselves, and neither could we if it ever came down to a legitimate fight without weapons. i love the line where he says "i'll die with the honor i choose/i'll fight face of bear and lose" like he is recognizing that humans need to stop thinking of themselves as so much better than the other creatures we share the earth with. the only honorable way to go is the way nature intended, becoming a meal for a hungry animal. not to mention the breakdown FUCKING DESTROYS!!! |

i love how this song ends and goes into vermicide. it reminds me so much of watching a movie. i feel like at the end, the narrator of the song is lying on the ground dying, and the camera is sitting sideways on the ground and slowly the static grows more prominent until for a second at the end of the tape you can see two people's feet in the frame [hear the voices] then the scene ends, and vermicide starts, and the camera cuts to a scene of ancient egyptians building a pyramid... i know it doesn't really fit the story all that well, but i think if i was making a movie of Amputechture, thats how i would do it. |

Its cool that the backwards talking is the itsy bitsy spider. its worth noting that the intro song to Drunkship Of Lanterns, Tira me a las Aranas translates in spanish to "throw me away to the spiders. also, Cerpin is an anagram for Prince, maybe referring to the Tremulants choosing him as their new leader. |

the album is supposed to be about a ouja board that i think omar bought for cedrics birthday. (it might be the other way around) anyway, they started playing it after shows, and eventually all these bad things happened to them. so cedric took it and buried it somewhere. he didnt tell anyone where it is, the album is the fictional story they made up based on the real events. |
