| David Bazan – Bearing Witness Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The New Atheist movement is not arrogant at all. Quite the opposite. After all, what's more arrogant than claiming to know the entire purpose of the universe and the intentions of its creator? The New Atheists never make truth claims like the religious do, and firmly root every statement in naturalistic materialism/empiricism. You just don't agree with them so you call them arrogant. Anyway, this is one of my favorite songs from the album. The "gap" between his faith and reality has torn his beliefs apart, and he's sick of living a lie. But what I love most about this track is how positive it ends up being. With the line "let go of what you know and honor what exists" he seems to provide a light at the end of the tunnel, showing how morally and ethically fulfilling non-belief can be. |

| Oceansize – The Frame Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i can hold you all together you wont fall with the troops that we assembled and the bond we've forged though this sketch is getting old now the cracks don't show time wont change a thing when i'm gone don't grip the wheel too tightly my son everything you need is done i woulda thought we'd won by now but oh no i have known no other method so don't presume there's wisdom when all that i am is time now and the cold the fruition in the detail is all that drives me i am not the picture now i am the frame |

| Red House Painters – Uncle Joe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| the live version from the 97 Hultsfred Festival is insanely awesome. gave me a new appreciation for this song. | |
| Red House Painters – Katy Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Katy isn't his drug dealer... it's about a girl Mark had a relationship with. she died a couple years ago (much of April is dedicated to her I believe) and this song is about her going back to London. he visits her later in Brockwell Park. just read the forward to Nights Passed Over and he lays out some of the story. that being said, it's an amazing, sad, beautiful song. |
|
| Low – Like a Forest Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I've listened to this song hundreds of times, but it still sends chills up my spine. Especially the "to go off in my hands" part at the end. Reminds me of Radiohead's "Let Down" in that it's such a downer but you can't help but feeling triumphant at the end of it. Sort of a "fuck it" sort of feeling. | |

| David Bazan – Forest Fires Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| well, i'll concede that Fewer Broken Pieces has to be autobiographical, but, ya get the picture | |
| David Bazan – Forest Fires Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
when i saw him perform last fall, he said that NONE of his songs are autobiographical. he was like "i hope you all don't think my life is this terrible...i have a lovely wife and a beautiful kid, and these stories are not about me" good to know, if these were his stories, that would be hella depressing. |

|
OFFICIAL: I do not Understand What it is I've done wrong Full of holes Check for pulse Blink your eyes One for yes Two for no I have no idea what I am talking about I am trapped in this body and can't get out Ooooohhhh You killed the sound removed backbone A pale imitation With the edges Sawn off I have no idea what you are talking about Your mouth moves only with someone's hand up your ass Ooooohhhh Has the light gone out for you? Because the light's gone for me It is the 21st century It is the 21st century It can follow you like a dog It brought me to my knees They got a skin and they put me in They got a skin and they put me in All the lines wrapped around my face All the lines wrapped around my face And for anyone else to see And for anyone else to see I'm a lie I've seen it coming I've seen it coming I've seen it coming I've seen it coming |

| it's a shame no one has commented on this beast of a track. another one of those aching songs that vennart is so good at writing. i can see why this is a b-side (doesn't really fit with any other 'size songs) but it's a shining moment in their catalogue that shouldn't be overlooked. | |

You're just like them now |
