Great song. Pretty simple interpretation for the manics anyway; straightforward anti-monarchy song.
I am pretty sure the lyric "but the Belfast wall" should be "blood-fuelled Belfast war" it would certainly make a lot more sense. |

I am pretty sure that '60 ton angel' is just a train. The 60 ton is probably an irrelevant ballpark estimate chosen for flow of the lyrics (i.e. 130 ton wouldn't fit as nicely). 'Scars in the country' is signifying the blight on the landscape that the train tracks make. |

For some reason, the '60 ton angel, falls to the earth, a pile of old metal, a radiant blur' line always makes me picture the Angel of the North statue (in Gateshead, UK) for some reason, even though I am sure it is just referring to a train. |
