And then, of course, the pilot asks "What did he say?" about a second before the bomb sounds.

Mew – Silas the Magic Car Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think the song is specifically about Johan's departure; it's just a hypothetical situation in which the whole band breaks up, and Jonas is left alone; I think Johan leaving made Jonas do some serious thinking.

So, have some surface-analysis, but, as always with Mew, you should make your own reading.

Go!:

"I wanted you to be at home.
I wanted you to be at home.
Could you foresee a day you might not play?"

Could be seen as a message to Johan, but, given the hypothetical situation, I think this is just Jonas reflecting on the events that led the the break-up.

"Silas and Bo, they got tired
And they’ll call you once a week
‘Cause it’s strange here
No dark career"

Silas and Bo blame the break-up on being tired, both of touring, and just the career as a whole.

"They all say they long to reach their sorrow now that’s gone"

This is open for interpretation over what "their sorrow" is. It could be a lost friendship, could be the break-up, etc., and the same thing has to be considered for just what "that" is. But, of course, Jonas encourages people to interpret things in their own way, so I won't put any ideas in your heads.

"They took us in to see their new apartment
thinking we’re slow and that our love is mean."

I think this is Jonas again feeling lonely and isolated, like Silas and Bo are a unit, and Jonas is can only visit them at their "new apartment", or perhaps the 'apartment' symbolises something else - maybe a new band, just like happened with Johan. Again, the "thinking we're slow" line is up for interpretation, and who "we" are, and whatnot isn't my place to give suggestions - make up your own minds.

"We’ll leave the green green
‘cause maybe we’ll get out somehow"

Maybe this is switching roles? Jonas is green with envy that he's been left out, Silas and Bo have their new apartment; they've escaped the "dark career".

"No-one thought of it;
we didn’t know we’d seen their last show."

Obviously, a band breaking up after over a decade is a major thing; it's like a divorce, which can go on for years before becoming "final".

Mew – Reprise Lyrics 15 years ago
Obviously, as the name suggests (as well as the music), this song is a reprise of Silas The Magic Car. I think STMC was written from a hypothetical point-of-view, where Silas and Bo follow Johan's footsteps in leaving the band, with Jonas forced to move on and carry on with his life, hence the reference to parenthood in this song. It's also possible that the parenthood reference is perhaps Jonas' fear of the idea of finishing the band and having to face such a different role all by himself, as "the dreamers have all grown", and are leading their own lives.

The line "I so wanted children of my own" sort of contradicts what I just typed out, but I think it actually follows on, after the hypothetical situation unfolds, Jonas remembers, or maybe convinces himself that he wanted children of his own (which just reminds me of the middle section of Cartoons And Macrame Wounds).

I think this song is also just a reprise, or a recollection of the entire album, ignoring New Terrain/Nervous.

Apparatjik – Look Kids Lyrics 15 years ago
What I hear, with some help from their Datascroll (the bit before the second chorus I know is wrong):

It's cooled.
I'm away now. Here I am sat,
park bench, peeling paint.
Where did I go wrong with you?
And I like to come around here alone.
Saddening; sheltered by the truce.

Look kids, the sun is up! Do you know what this means?
Do you know what this means?
Look kids, the sun is up! Do you know what this means?
Do you know what this means?

Each way, I'm fading,
lights are dim now,
except I'm still here,
sensing in the air your ghost,
and I'm liking floating here on my own,
thinking that all will be okay.

We need your truce!
Outside to be all mine,
and cease to be your time.

Look kids, the sun is up! Do you know what this means?
Do you know what this means?
Look kids, the sun is up! Do you know what this means?
Do you know what this means?

Look kids, the sun is up! Do you know what this means?
Do you know what this means?

Look kids, the sun is up! Do you know what this means?
Do you know what this means?

Coheed and Cambria – The Broken Lyrics 15 years ago
Correct lyrics:

I've followed your every move;
in a strike that wields disguise,
our little markings clue the finds.
Your red lips speak of painted figures,
the teeth of mangled little listeners,
the thoughts that hide your rusty scissors in.
And hooded men,
swinging honesty across this violence.
Obscurity has no hero.

The world looks better when you’re falling,
grace to comfort enough to crawl in,
divided we must pray for the broken, no one could fix us.
We are, we’ll always be the wrong.

Blar, blar, blar, blar, blar, blar, blar, blar, blar.

Your touch seethes of emptiness,
the callous tips against the brush,
the world's now breaking off to curse.

The world looks better when you’re falling,
grace to comfort enough to crawl in,
divided we must pray for the broken, no one could fix us.
We are, we’ll always be the wrong.

We are conspiring.

Where was your heart, when we needed it most?
Live in denial and I’ll be your ghost.
There is nothing to let go; only time will let you know,
if you’re worth anything, you’ll know that I’m
giving up way too early, let the axis turn you free
and destroy everything you love.

The world looks better when you’re falling,
grace to comfort enough to crawl in,
divided we must pray for the broken, no one could fix us.
We are, we are...
we are, we are...
we are, we'll always be the wrong.

Mew – Beach Lyrics 16 years ago
I'd like to note the connection between this song and "Swimmer's Chant":
"It’s a sombre turn-out tonight in chemistry class
Tragedy in our park
Something happened in the dark"

and

"In tragedy park
Staging it there
With seeds to spare"

There isn't necessarily any meaningful connection here, but they did the same with previous albums [Louise Louisa/In Time Do You Forget? and with Half The World Is Watching Me/Behind The Drapes].
