As I Lay Dying – Comfort Betrays Lyrics 18 years ago
the person above me has the right idea. I don't know for sure, but I'm almost definite its about someone being friends with someone who's not saved, and never telling them about Jesus.

When the friend finally does get saved they realize that their friend would have just stood around and watched them die than to endure a little discomfort and tell them about Jesus.

The unsaved friend would have trusted them all the way until they were at the gates of hell.

The Devil Wears Prada – Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over Lyrics 18 years ago
I talked to Mike last night on the Bone Palace Ballet tour, and asked him what exactly he meant in the song because it's been interpreted so many ways.

He said that he every lyric he writes is designed to be "very" metaphorical so that many interpretations can be made. I told him that I was thinking about the materialism as in the "He wears a slick jacket..." but he said that in that, the "He" is Mike himself.

Its about overcoming sin and I'm seeing the slick jacket and gold watch as the sin that Mike as a sinner still has.

The main ideas from the other interpretations sound right too.
