He is comparing JFK to God (in the Perception of the American public) "angels with needles poked through our eyes let the ugly light of the world in we were no longer blind we were no longer blind" -The assassination let in the ugly light of the reality, took off America's 'blindfolds' to it "Now we hold the "ugly head" the Mary-whore is at the bed They've cast the shadow of our perfect death in the sun and in the dirt." -The 'ugly Head' is JFK's, destroyed by a rifle round. His wife (Jackie-O, referred to as the Mary-Whore) held it in her lap and screamed immediately after the shot, while they were still in the car (his head fell in her lap, so maybe he's referring to her lap as the bed?). -The first and last verses go together, or the first clarifies the second: JFK died in the sun, then was buried in the dirt (the same place all God's children from the first verse will also 'be sent'). His death "cast the shadow of our perfect death, in the sun, in the dirt. |
