| I believe this song is about an older guy who is in love with a younger girl. She is the love of his life, but he is scared to give is heart completely to her because she is too young and naive.(But you're still young and out of line). So basically she could do some SEVERE damage to him if she wanted to just up and run. His mother put her heart out there and the heart break ended up taking her life.( Broken heart disease or possibly her being so depressed that she took her own life.) So basically he is very much in love, but he knows the downward spiral he could take if he makes himself vulnerable to this young woman. Such a powerful and meaningful song!! | |

| I think this song is pretty much a.b. all girls....we sometimes lose ourselves in order to "fit" in with societie's standard of what we should be. I think he is telling us all to be true ourselves...b/c in the end that is all that matters. Its the inner beauty that is going to shine through the most....its as if he wants to bring back that sweet girl next door instead of the dumb model/actress. | |

A lover of mine put this song on a cd for me because he would hear it at work and think of me. now its awkward hearing it at work because it forshadows what I did. Either way its a beautiful song, and I believe that I will name my 1st daughter Mandolin after this song. This song reminds me of a relationship that I was in. I was just getting out of a bad break up and the new guy that I was with was a "recovering" coke addict. I gave him my heart completely, but nothing was enough to keep him away from the drugs and the drinks.
