Lol, looking back at it, the "changing tires, upstairs bro" line may not be about being above a tire shop, its probably a euphemism for going through a box of rubbers (condoms). But I feel like the rest of this is pretty close. |

@[gk10:26176] I definitely agree, but I'd just note that there seem to be some parallels between his lyrics and the Book of Revelations in the Bible:
"...the seven hills where the woman rules..."
"...The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair..."
I don't know if he intended any of this, but his lyrical cadence seems almost biblical. Plus, it feels like an 'end of the world' prophesy would be fitting for a soul-crushing breakup. |

I agree with others who have said its about a killer. I think that he's a sociopath, so in general, he's incapable of empathizing with other people's emotions. But when he is kidnapping and killing his victims, they have emotions that he can relate to: fear, anger, disgust... so in the moment of killing them, he actually feels closer to humanity. He has a "hybrid moment" - he feels part monster, but also part human. And he is so moved by this connection he starts to get choked up. |

Buncha regular romantics we got here... now that listen to it again I guess it might be bout alcohol, but I still like to imagine its about a girl. It sounds like he's remembering back on the one that got away... like the way he's in bed with that gingerlady (prolly a barfly he picked up the night before or somethin), but all he can think about is this girl. |

I think that this song is about a girl who discovers sex by jumping in the deep end. I seems to me that either her dad owns a tire shop or she works at one... anyway, she starts slutting it up [then the time came to explore] with the grease monkeys (the tattooed love boys) and soon enough she gets really popular with the guys and they're lined up around the block to get a shot at her. In the last verse she kind of comes to the end of her real experimental phase, and this guy is up in her room with her [all impressed and half undressed] and from what he's heard she's pretty much a sure thing. So when she's not giving it up he gets whiny and starts pressuring her. That's when she basically laughs him off, saying if he doesn't cut the crap she gonna deck him [you're gonna make some plastic surgeon a rich man]. Anywho that's what i think. |

Essentially he was in love with this girl, but she breaks it off. Later, he's still in love with her, but he starts hearing about what a slut she is and how she slept around on him. But he still can't help his feelings for her. So now he's HEARTBROKE, CHEATED ON, DUMPED and in love with a SLUT. Sad thing is, this story hits a little to close to home for me... |

It about close friends that drift apart. They are rebels in school but as time passes Mick begins going straight, focusing on his music, while the other guy keeps getting deeper and deeper into the life. He gets caught in a robbery and goes to prison in Brixton. Mick tries to keep up with him by writing, promising to see him as soon as he gets out. But one day Mick realizes he is getting out but he's playing a gig that night. So he toasts him at the end of the song, wishing him the best, and coming to terms with the fact that they'll never be the kind of friends they were before but remembering all the times they had and what it meant. |

Yeah this song is about a man cheating on his lover/fiance/wife ("Sin still plays and preaches but to have an empty"). With the "state of love and trust" in shambles he doesn't know what to do, so he reaches out to religion to "help him help himself". He listens for an answer and gets... "nothing." So he "does this one himself." Even though she doesn't know , he can't handle the guilt, or "the smell on his hands", so he tries/succeeds(?) to commit suicide. He hesitates and "backs it away" but he may or may not go through with it. There is that last "bang" on the guitars and drums at the end. |

Yeah this song def sounds like rape... even if it's a metaphor about the press or media or whatev, it's def about rape. Regardless, this song has the most anger and loathing toward another person I've ever heard. I'm pretty sure metallica have never been this angry, even in their heyday. But yeah if i'm ever pissed off at someone, this is the song i listen to... straight rage!! |

| Brand New – The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
This song is a story about a young couple who decide to get married at a young age ("Veil in ruins in the rain"). As soon as things get serious, the lust that was once in the couple was already burning out ("By then it was you I could do without"). But by then it was too late to back out and they already had kids on the way. The protagonist is now regretting the opportunities in life that he lost by settling down too early and he blames his wife and kids ("Although the kids are blessed the parents let them shoulder all the blame"). The "Quiet Things" are all these regrets that he has but can't tell anyone about. He has to bottle up his emotions by "Keeping the blood in your head, and your feet on the ground." These secrets are what he's talking about when he says "I lie for only you; and I lie well."
...but the perhaps the point of view is different... instead of living through it maybe he's just imagining the marriage situation to justify ending the relationship with the girl (since he says he "contemplates" the day they wed)... kind of like saying, "we had this relationship and it was good but let's end it now before we take it too far"... now I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right, it's just what i think |

When I first heard this I thought he said in the chorus [And the angels cried, "You're wicked!" and they ruined his world] instead of the King Jeremy part. I realize that's wrong but if those were the words it would've kind of made sense. Because since he didn't recieve love from his parents he feared God didn't love him either. |

I don't know why but whenever I listen to this song and I see the story unfolding, it always has this film noir feel to it... idk maybe its the jazzy guitar or the lines [film from her eyes from the glow] and [smoke beneath the playground lights] but a dark and contrasted world seems fitting... if there were ever a video for the song thats what I imagine it would be like |

I think that this song deals with facing your own personal demons... I believe that it is about the fight that happens between the good and evil inside you (hence the title of the album, duh)... the person that he is talking about arresting is his own dark side... when he says he doesn't have the "time" he is talking about when you become disillusioned and jaded by all the terrible things that happen in the world that you don't know if it's even worth it to do the "right" thing anymore, or worse yet, you don't even know what "right" is.... the verse about robbing houses is about when you feel that you've been wronged and it seems the only way to make it right is revenge (kind of like an eye for an eye)... the next verse about drowning babies is about how he feels when it seems like their is nothing but pain and cruelty in this world, and he feels that rather than seeing the innocence and beauty of children crushed by the world it would be better that their innocence were "saved" from all this by an early death (No, Vinnie is not a twisted psycho)... The line about taunting you outside the courtroom is kind of like his dark side laughing at his good side saying you should of done it my way (because when you do what's "right" you're not always rewarded for it and it's much easier to get ahead in life if you're willing to compromise yourself)... The verse about driving his car off a bridge is obviously about contemplating suicide when the grind of life doesn't seem to be worth it anymore, and then he sarcastically comments it would be a great way to save some time (since everyone's gonna die anyway)... the part about lying in the back and being beaten or putting up your fists and fight is his way of saying "what does anything I do matter anyway?"... the chorus is basically a summary of what the song (and album) is about... being the better man and denying your darker urges... beautiful song, very deep |

What an amazing song... i absolutely love the opening riff!!! It's so fiery, it reminds me of Layla... When I first heard this song i thought it was a shot at atheists you dismissed other people who had faith [Who do you carry this torch for my young man? Do you believe in anything? Do you carry it around just to burn things down?] But now I realize it's an attack on people who use religion for political agendas... My favorite line is [You're beating with a book that only ever taught you to love]... It exposes them for the hypocrites they really are.... awesome |

I think that this song is about him watching his girlfriend (or at least a friend). Its starts out that there hanging out and smoking when she tells him that she wants to run away from home [if you're leavin' just let me know]... and so he asks her why so she prolly whines about how "her parents won't let her stay out all night and how life is just so unfair" or that type of BS [she defends it with a warped rationale]... as he watches her make all these mistakes over and over [as we learn as we age we learn we learn nothing], selfishly taking all the love and support that she gets from her friends and family and using it only to further her own means [and you take cuz they give / wicked and proud take on the thrown for the crown] just makes him really angry and cynical [my body it leaks like a sieve]... it seems that he stays in contact with her in the later verses and tries to convince to come home [if you're coming home just let me know]... he also observes how her absence has torn apart her family as he watches her mother search for her [Concrete and water, she's looking for her daughter at midnight in torrential downpour] which makes him fed up with her that he won't even send a letter he wrote for her [And everything I said about how messed your head is We're cut up and left in bits and pieces on the ground]... the breakdown is apparently about angrily/sadly shattering a picture of her but idk if it is suppose to be him or her mother... the mother may have also committed suicide [Take a leap from out the window cause it's way too far to go through the door]... This is a really a meaningful and deep BN song but it seems like one of the more confusing ones.... i dont fully understand the line [Sucking on your breath mint, dissected and stuck with pins] or
[A film in her eyes from the glow]... i think that they both may simply be atmospheric to help paint a picture in your mind... i love the line about the breathmint cuz it reminds me about sucking on breathmints until they get all spiny and cut ur tongue, ya know... that last part stupid but whatever |

I believe this is a gay anthem that draws inspiration from Oscar Wilde. Oscar Wilde was bisexual in a time when all homosexual acts were illegal. The term "hand in glove" was used by a friend of Oscar's, Alfred Douglas, to describe his homosexual relationships..."he was hand in glove with all the little boys on the Boulevard. He never attempted to conceal it." Most of the verses are from one partner to the other on how they will be percieved by the public and how openly they should display there relationship. |

I love the very end of this song when Jesse is screaming:
"I’m not letting you check out
You will beat this starting now and you will always be around
I’ll be there to monitor your breathing
I will watch you while you’re sleeping
I will keep you safe and sound"
The way Jesse can convey feelings is amazing. It's like those hard life lessons that everyone has to go through. His grandfather gracefully accepting death as an inevitable part of life, while Jesse, in his youthful abandon, is fighting it, saying that he isn't ready for him to go. But the truth is we're never ready for the one's we love to go. But its part of life and its something that everyone learns. Brilliant song. |

I think this song is about losing a loved one and trying to overcome it and move on. It's pretty blunt in the very beginning but there are also other parts... like where he says, "Is it in you now, to see the things you gave your life to broken, and to stoop and build them up with warn out tools?" Now, a teacher of mine recently lost his wife in a car accident and suddenly this song rang very true for me. If that had happened to me, those are the type of questions I'd be asking: 'I've loved with all my heart and given all I had to this woman and now she's gone... what do I do now? Do I have it in me to love like that again?' Then, the second verse is about looking to others to support ("nothing gets so bad a whisper from your father couldn't fix it") and starting life again ("take all that you have and turn it into something you would miss"). The final verse seems to be about reflecting back ("Do you miss the blend of color she left in your black and white field?"). This song is like going through every stage of mourning the passing of a loved one. Its bone-chilling every time I listen to it. Devastatingly beautiful... |

i believe that the first lyric is: "please make the technology, so i can turn up your love." I believe this song is about unrequited love. He thinks the world of this girl and he is crushed that she doesn't love him back. Thats why he begs her to "be my babe". It also sounds like she must be a tease or use him for sex because he says "don't feed me scraps from your bed". Then in the breakdown were he says "you set on me, but you are not the sun", he is trying to convince himself that it's not the end of the world if she doesn't love him. But it seems in the end that he would rather have her use him than not have her at all because he asks her to "just pretend that you love me, and be my babe (bane)". I think that he says babe but its better if he switched between the two. It's like the fighting that goes on in his head between the truth (she is his bane, she doesn't love him but destroys him) and his fantasy (she is his babe, that she loves him). In the end, it seems he decides its better to hold on to the fantasy. Regardless, great song; the breakdown is beautiful. Its theme reminds me of "Ever fallen in love?" by the Buzzcocks. |
