Radiohead – Pearly Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, always have. And I care about the third world. In fact, for the last year I've been in Manila trying to get my fiance a visa, which she finally got yesterday after 16 months. Anyway, this song comes to mind a lot when I'm walking around this crazy country (originally im from UK) but since meeting my girlfriend (we are both in 20s) I have been unsure whether to feel offended by this song. Saying that, Thom cares about the universe and those unfortunate enough to be born into poverty (think of all the starving millions) and so I dont think he is saying anything bad about women from out here, just saying the way it tends to be and the way the west perceive eastern women.
I dont know, its too good too hate.

Radiohead – You and Whose Army? Lyrics 18 years ago
I'd like to think that this song is about standing up for yourself against people in authority.

For Thom it's probably the government, most likely new labour and Blair, as he was in power during the writing of the song.

But I hope that others take the message and use it to bolster themselves against those who try to suppress us. If we are decent enough, we have friends and family and no matter who you are, you will never beat us all. and we will die fighting if we have to.

Radiohead – Like Spinning Plates Lyrics 18 years ago
Remember the cloud cukoo land remark that Thatcher made about the Apartheid in South Africa? Well I don't cos I'm too young, but that reaffirms the poilitical nature of this song, and the posts on this page are right to emphasise the annoyance that is expressed in the song behind our inability to stop the suffering which is caused by politicians who do nothing but make pretty speeches. how long, indeed, can these western politicians continue to do nothing. and how much longer can we manage to let them pretend they are doing something? quite a trick really, a little like spinning plates, i suppose.

Radiohead – Bones Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the way they perform this song live. Thom jumping up and snarling at the crowd. Fantastic. I've never been able to figure out what it's about, unlike most radiohead songs where I usually have my own little interpretation. This one leaves me stumped.

To say its absolutely uncomplicated and must be about aging is a little presumptuous. I mean when you get old are your wrists, knees and back broken? are you ground to dust and ash? do you crawl? no. as for climbing the stairs, couldnt this be metaphorical, and prozac is an anti-depressant is it not?

I believe that whoever thinks this song is simple is probably wrong. For me, like all radiohead songs, there is more to it than meets the eye.

Radiohead – All I Need Lyrics 18 years ago
I never thought about the stalker thing until visiting this site but yeah, I can see where that theory comes from and why some people have interpreted it that way.

I agree with the person who said the line is "im just an insect, trying to get out of your eye". he is an annoyance to the other person, but cant help but be obsessed by them.

Throughout the song, the line that doesnt fit is "i only stick with you because there are no others". that for me is totally contrary to what would be written if this song was, indeed, a typical love song. now looking at it as a stalker song, the line seems to fit a bit better.

who knows? It's great anyway. roll on cd 2.

some great interpretations by the way!

no no no no its all about adultery isnt that clear from the old version of the song? the original had the extra stuff about the girl being naked and beckoning you to bed! dont go you'll only want to come back again. adultery pure and simple, seedy stuff.

i loved the old version (like ten years old). i like the new version now too. but still i prefer the old version, it reduced me to tears when i first heard it. the new one is superb though, a bit more cheeky than the sadness of the old one, with thom at keyboard.

check the meeting people is easy radiohead documentary for the original version.

Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling into Place Lyrics 18 years ago
I like the last three posts. But for me its about cheating.

Cheating with a girl in a club. nervous chit chat and 'blather' at first, the alcohol loosens them, but is also intoxicating them. The girl is happy, loving the attention, the guy is getting drunk and amazed at the way the place works; this club where strangers meet with one track minds. He plays along, enjoying the experience and watching her dance (is she a performer in the club too perhaps) before the alcohol finishes his hopes of being able to resist her.

The night probably ends in sex and her passing out. Not necessarily in a house, Asia, for example, is full of private rooms in nightclubs. The night is left as a memory the next day, pulsating and going round and round in his head. But he never meant the things he was saying to her during the chit chat stage, he acted and spoke, representing himself in a way which wasn't totally truthful (i.e he was taken).

Anyway, at the end yeah they see each other again and remember the madness of that evening but he is filled with regret, how could he risk everything he has with his partner for a one night stand?

Why? Because he is a guy and thats what we do. He regrets it, but he looks back, enjoying the memory and the recognition. but he vows never to do it again, as the jigsaw has fallen into place and he realises that he loves his girl and its just not worth the risk, and it aint guys, but we still do it dont we.

That's it from me.
