| i agree with maryjanegreengrass that it seems as if she's trying to reassure herself to a degree. in particular, i like the lines "your faith was an illusion/and you're as loyal as your faith/will let you be"...an interesting view which seems to remove fault from either party, making the situation easier to deal with, making it easier to "stay golden." | |

"the squeaking of our skin against the steel has gotten worse" it's becoming more and more painful to fall in love, which is easy to do (as riding down a slide). he's tired of the climb back up to the top because all it leads to is the all too familiar "sqeaking," or inevitable end of the relationship/fight. "And it's strange They are basically the same So I don't ask names anymore" -seems to be about meaningless hookups and going through the motions without even trying to feel...a name makes the situation too personal. the fantasy is all that's left because reality is too difficult. |

so poignant. "It stung like a violent wind that our memories depend On a faulty camera in our minds" so true that all we really have are memories which are inherently inaccurate and differing from person to person...when a loved one dies, all we have are the fading memories...we can never recreate their presence, we only have that which we remember from past interactions. |
