| Editors – When Anger Shows Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song reminds me of a book I read, called 'Solaris'. It's a story about a guy whose wife commits suicide, and ten years later, he goes to this planet which basically recreates her from his memories and thoughts. She, and the guilt, start making life difficult for the guy, and, besides, they are sort of tied together so he can't go far away from her. He knows he must get rid of her, but can't do it because he still loves her. I don't think Tom read the book or anything, but maybe he did mean an emotional struggle a bit like the one in it? Maybe it's about loving someone who, for some reason, you are forbidden to, and don't want to, love? A sort of criminal, maybe? He's obviously comforted by her, and, at the same time, feels endangered and repulsed by her presence in his life. Still, he knows he could never let go. By the way, I LOVE this song! Is it my imagination, or does Tom's voice sound especially sexy in it...?! |

| Editors – Bones Lyrics | 18 years ago |

"In the end all you can hope for Is the love you felt to equal the pain you've gone through" This is definitely a top class song from this amazing band. The tune is so catchy and rocky, and the lyrics are so beautiful and uplifting. Completely off the subject, but I think Tom is, like, the hottest guy ever. He looks especially cute with his longish hair!!!! ;-) |

The correct lyrics are, "Hold out your hand, I will carry you." |

| Editors – Escape the Nest Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Coming to terms with death is what most songs on the End has a Start album are about. I think this song is about having an illness that will kill you in the end, and having someone you love help you come to terms with it, and enjoy what time you've got left, despite the pain. Maybe it's about feeling very small, knowing you will have to die in the end, but still finding the good and beauty in life. It's about how you need friends and family in a situation like this. | |

' When my time comes forget the wrong that I've done Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed Don't resent me, when you're feeling empty Keep me in your memory, leave out all the rest Leave out all the rest.' Linkin Park's best song, I think. So true and beautiful!!! |

| Editors – The Racing Rats Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I LOVE this song! It's so mature and poetic, like most other Editors songs!!! *_* I think (This is just a guess) that it's about someone whose partner died of an illness. 'When the time comes You're no longer here Fall down to my knees Begin my nightmare' The person (impersonated by the singer) realises that the one he/she loved is dead, and life becomes like a nightmare for him/her. 'Words spill from my drunken mouth I just can't keep them all in' He/she can't believe it has happened, and is saying so and expressing the sorrow. 'I keep up with the racing rats and do my best to win' A 'racing rats' situation is when people are trying to become more advanced, etc. but are actually getting nowhere. The singer feels that his/her life is totally pointless. 'Slow down little one You can't keep running away You musn't go outside yet It's not your time to play' I'm not too sure about this, but my guess (pretty straightforward) is that the people had a child together, and the singer wants to protect the child from harm as well as the knowledge of its parent's death. 'Standing at the edge of your town, With the skyline in your eyes,' The singer is visiting the place where he/she and the dead person spent time, to remember it. The skyline may be the fact that the death is still fresh on his mind, or the singer is thinking about the afterlife. 'Reaching up to God, The sun says its goodbyes.' This may be another reference to heaven and the afterlife, as well as the fact that the happy memories have to end and that the singer must go back to reality. 'If a plane were to fall from the sky How big a hole would it leave In the surface of the earth?' This shows how the singer's world was devastated by the loss. 'Let's pretend we never met Let's pretend we're on our own We'll live different lives Until our cover's blown.' The singer is thinking about how it would have been to never have met the person and not to be affected by the death, but he knows he can't escape, hence 'until our cover's blown'. 'I push my hands up to the sky Shade my eyes from the sun As the dust settles around me Suddenly night time has begun.' The singer is again trying to escape from reality, but he can't and the memories of the death (dust) remain. 'Come on now You knew you were lost But you carried on anyway Come on now You knew you had no time but you let the day drift away' The singer is finally finding a bit of hope as he thinks about his/her partner's bravery in fighting the illness. Another thing, I'm really not sure about the 'Slow down little one...' verse. I'm sure my interpretation is wrong. Can someone please help me? :-) |

| Editors – Munich Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I saw the music video for this song, and both the video and the song are chilling!!! I think it is about the Munich Olympic Games Massacre. In the music video, an athletic-looking man is running with his leg x-rayed. There are also people doing gymnastics, and dust falls from people's hands as they clap them. In the lyrics, for example: "People are fragile things, you should know by now Be careful what you put them through." This illustrates the pain and horror of what happened, and also the impact it had on the world we live in. There are many ways to interpret this song, but the fact remains... IT ROCKS! EDITORS ROCK!!! PS. lol silentexclamation, I think you've read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!!! |

| Snow Patrol – The Finish Line Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I do agree that this song is about death, but I don't agree that it's about suicide. My guess is that he sacrificed himself for someone, maybe by intercepting a bullet. 'The earth is warm next to my ear Insect noise is all that I hear.' He's lying there on the ground, savouring the warmth of it, and his last seconds of life. The insect noise is people talking in the background, but it all seems pointless. 'A magic trick makes the world disappear.' This says how hard it may have seemed to die for someone, but how easy it was in the end. 'The skies are dark, they're dark but they're clear.' The dark skies refer to not knowing what happens after death, but accepting it and thinking that it is not all bad. 'A distant motorcade and suddenly there's joy The snow and tickertape blurs all my senses numb He hears police cars coming, and he feels contented that the person is still alive. The policemen are putting tape around the scene, and his senses are beginning to fall asleep. It's like the finish line where everything just ends The crack of radios seems close enough to touch' He is dying, and he hears the police radios. He feels as though he could still live, but the radios are fading away from him. Cold water, cleaning my wounds A sad parade, with a single balloon. His wounds are being cleaned, and maybe his mind too; he's feeling very peaceful. There are people watching, but the single ballon refers to the fact that not many of them know him and care about him. I'm done with this, I'm counting to ten Blue as seas, running to them He knows it's almost over, and is counting his last moments. I think that instead of 'Blue as seas' it's 'bluer seas'. This could mean that he believes that he's going to a better place. I feel like I am watching everything from space And in a minute I hear my name and I wake Just as I said, he feels like he could be alive, and almost wishes that it's all a dream, a loved one will wake him up, and he'll go on living. I think the finish line's a good place we could start This refers to a sort of second life, or maybe finding out what happens after death. Take a deep breath, take in all that you could want. He wants to breathe in the air one last time, and take in the sight of the person he died for, all that he could want. In fact, this song could also involve him lying in hospital, on a life-support machine. That would explain those beeps in the beginning and end of the song. Depressing lyrics, but... BEST SONG EVER!!!!! |

| Editors – Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I LOVE this song!!! When I hear it, I always see a group of friends, or a family, living in a war-torn country. One of them died in the war, and, on hearing the news, the guy singing just wants to believe it's not true and somehow run away from it, hence 'Pull the blindfold down...' The guy feels that his living family/friends will suffer the same fate, and just can't bear to say goodbye. He feels that the death was somehow his fault (My dirty hands/Have I been in the wars). The 'Smokers outside the hospital doors' may be smoking people waiting outside a hospital (this gives an impression of the hospital being run down and broken), waiting for the diagnosis of loved ones injured in the war. He wants to go back in time and start again, maybe by preventing the death or at least spending more time with the person. The 'How can we wear our smiles' part is unusually full of hatred and anger. It may be addressed to the enemy soldiers, who took all happiness away from him. However, the guy soon realises that the dead friend would have wanted him to move on. At first he doubts ('I can't believe you/ If I can't hear you), but then he sees that, even though he has been changed by all that happened and part of him died with the friend, the friend made a sacrifice for him, and he should live life and not despair. |
