sorry to burst some bubbles but here's what dave said on his website: "Thing is, I havn't done drugs or even drank in years and years. Hell, I stopped pot and drugs in the early 80s and drinking in 96! And I would hardly call my Benzo binge a creative period. Quite the contrary. What I'm trying to say is that if there's any change in future music, good or bad, it sure as hell aint cause of drugs. There isn't one MM song that was written stoned. Not one MM album that was recorded stoned. I know it sounds boring but it's true. " but monster magnet still rules and i can't figure out how to express the meaning in half the shit in their songs. all i know is that listening to them connects in a level deeper than words, shattering perspective and lining up planets |

this song is about life. it is about how life is not what we want, how life is absurd and good things don't always happen to the right people, and so on. and by "trip" it's not talking about drugs. it is about tripping through life because life is not a smooth ride. the first thing about the church is how the church talks about dying. then the man who is getting close to death at 70 years old realizes that death is the door to understanding the craziness of life or that life is only understandable as it ends. and he breaks through the wall of life to reunite with those who passed before him. and we're never gonna survive this crazy place we call life unless we get a little crazy to cope just like how people, even friends, kill eachother. it's not understandable. we tell ourselves it can't be real but it's life. if only we had been there to see the creation of life "when we first took the pill", then maybe we would have meaning. maybe we would understand the craziness. and it's crazy to do your best to live a good life while others mess up theirs. and so many people mess up their lives. "only some want to fly" and i guess the closest we can get to understanding this mess of life is through the clear eyes of a "child", untouched by the madness of his or her life that is yet to come. but someday, someway... |
