Avantasia – Promised Land Lyrics 15 years ago
This song's meaning changes quite a bit depending on which version you listen to. The one from the EP has the confrontation between the Scarecrow (Tobias), the villain-guy (Jørn) and his mentor (Kiske), while the Angel of Babylon incarnation is merely between Tobias and Jørn.

In Angel of Babylon, this seems to serve as the final confrontation between the Scarecrow and his enemy before resolution in Journey to Arcadia. As with the rest of the album, it's very open to personal interpretation and I doubt there is a 'right' answer. It seems that the antagonist poses the question whether or not the scarecrow wants to stay with him, and he seems to have been finally denied, considering Journey to Arcadia.

Meanwhile, in Lost in Space, it simply seems to be Jørn and Kiske's characters vying for control over him. Taking into consideration the rest of the saga, he seems to pick Jørn.

This is about The X-Files. If the title itself wasn't a huge giveaway already, the lines,

"Full HD sci-fi scream"
"Far from the Skyland Mountain..."

It kind of seems like it's from Scully's POV with the references to hypnotism and Skyland Mountain, but I'm not totally sure.

Kamelot – The Pendulous Fall Lyrics 16 years ago
Though the interpretations are thus far good, I'd be inclined to disagree on the song's ending; I don't think the speaker went through with it, but they may still be contemplating it.

The phrase "life is a pendulous fall" refers to life being like the ticking of a clock, and "soon enough we go/where nobody can touch us" reenforces the statement, saying that we all die soon enough anyways, so why not live a little longer?

The second verse offers some confusion, but I think it refers to a bad breakup; "you gave her what she claimed...just like a good old friend". This seems to imply that he told a woman he loved her, but she turned around and said the same to him...only, it was "as a friend". After this the subject withdrew from his friends and family, but another friend of his, the speaker, is basically telling him that everyone hurts, so suck it up.

I also think "where the world must have begun" is more refferring to death itself; beginning in nothing, ending in nothing. "The rainbow ends" at a pot of gold, a reward. In this case, an escape from the suffering; death.

But with the brighter key change at the end, and repetition of the chorus, it seems like the words have stuck with the subject, so instead of blindly following through with his own misery, he stops and gives things another thought.

Beautiful song.

Bush-bashing, no doubt. It and To Create a Warlike Feel fit each other like gloves.

The song is wolves versus dogs. The way I interpret the situation is that a dog encounters a pack of wolves who try to tempt him into joining their pack and abandoning his family, but he declines. The character switches depending on who's singing; when Tony sounds "kind", he's the dog, like in "where's your trust, where's your heart...". Anything else, he's the wolf.

Sonata Arctica – The Worlds Forgotten, The Words Forbidden Lyrics 17 years ago
I kind of think aliens at some points...the weird sound effects, the voice he says "where is my home" in, following the stars...but that doesn't make a huge amount of sense in the rest of the song.

I can't help but feel "the child" is in part a Nightwish referance considering they're always going on about some "dead boy" or century child or something like that...

Sonata Arctica – Wildfire Lyrics 18 years ago
This song can mean anything the way I see it...let me jsut highlight a few things that could be going on in it.

The man, singled out by a mountain town for crimes committed by his father, takes out his anger by trying to "curse" the town and not expecting anything of it...except...it works, and the town pretty much gets screwed over.

The man realizes that he can atone for what he's done by warning them of the finale of his curse, the eruption of the mountain as a volcano, but they don't believe him. He runs away from the town, and when the volcano erupts the entire town is destroyed, save for the man who now feels horribly responsible for it.

I get the "curse" part from "what was a bad joke is now a reality show"; something that he hadn't meant as serious became reality.

I'm wondering what the "we are all forced to obey" bit is about; I'm assuming it means we are slaves to our anger and should look before we leap.

Sonata Arctica – The Vice Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it has a love element.

So, yeah, there are a bunch of kids who are being raised to be assassins or something "evil". But #9, the best and the brightest, falls in love with a girl from the outside world. The guy hates himself because he's being raised as a killer and is afraid of what he might become, and at last, he and the chick are discovered, she's killed, he freaks out and murders everyone, then runs off.

I think.

...yeah.

I'd go with the whole "suicide" idea if it weren't for this line:

"Life is waiting for the one who loves to live"

Pretty much saying that now she is free and there's a whole new life out there for her.

I'm unsure what the first verse is talking about. Either it's she's cutting herself and realizes she needs to get away, or she actually kills her tormentor.

Sonata Arctica – The Cage Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this is actually a second part to Ain't Your Fairytale, particularly due to one line in AYF: "The pack they have always feared is back", and other ones that suggest said pack is after something. This something happens to be this caged wolf, who I'm presuming is the pack's alpha wolf.

"They´ll kill for me, steal back my freedom, set me free,
It´s my minions vs.thee"

He's reffering to his pack, who are coming to reclaim him and set him free.

Or so he hopes...

He wants his freedom and he only wants peace between him and the humans, but he believes his rage will get the better of him in the end because they torment him so.

I really like this song. Especially the last few runs of the chorus with the "oooooo" thing going on in the background.

I don't think anyone has gotten the lyrics quite right yet.

I'm assuming it's about how the wolves were nearly hunted to extinction. One particular pack escaped and survived for some time, steadily retrieving their numbers. By the time the humans find them, they've become strong enough to fight back and take their revenge.

Sonata Arctica – Fly With The Black Swan Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is difficult to interpret, as there seems to be so much going on in it at one time.

The obvious part is that a man dies in an avalanche, and since he's so afraid to die he cuts a deal with the "Black Swan", or as the last poster said, Cygnus. However, this transforms him into a soul-ferrying swan, and he later realizes that it's more of a curse than a gift and realizes he needs to pawn off his job on someone else, even if that means that he'll truly die.

The things I'm unsure of are whether or not the man becomes just another Black Swan, or replaces Cygnus himself, as well as Cygnus' actual gender; this confusion is brought on by the verse about the man's engagement, and I figure the only "you" he could be talking about is Cygnus, in which case the original Black Swan is actually a woman (which is odd, because the Cygnus from mythology is a woman). Actually, every time he says "you" I become confused.

As well, there might be slight perspective-changes within the song; "One day I know you'll sell your soul". Is this Cygnus talking about our sorry protagonist, or the dude himself talking about some other person? If so, who?

Confusing song, awesome song. I love it.
