He heard someone singing one of his songs on a street somewhere. Perhaps it was a song he wrote for her, this childhood love; so it brought him closer to her. It made him think of her, maybe this was his first love; maybe they have both moved away, maybe lost touch with each other, through things that happen in life. So now he's wondering if he goes back, or finds her again, will she be there, will she still have love for him, like he does for her, if she doesn't, he knows it's his fault; but inspite of it all, true happiness is being free. On the lyric sheet this song is dedicated for Nicole. So maybe she is the girl whose face he's always looking to see again.

For his son, whatever... It's about this girl that he has always been in love with, maybe from childhood and she likes him too, but gives him a hard time, like she teases him or maybe she is shy. She wouldn't come to Nashville to see him, but he's going to Carolina to see her chasing her. She told him no, but she told him was heading up to Carolina. It's a tease, he knows this and likes this about her, so he has steal kisses from her when he can. Sneak them in, like pecks on the cheek or forehead. He likes it though, I think it's what makes him crazy for her. This song is a happy song, it should remind everyone of when they first started having crushes or falling in love when it was innocent. That story about the son seems like a good excuse, because sometimes you do have to steal kisses from the little ones. But I don't think that having to steal kisses from him would turn to lyrics about a simple country dress, and the southern rain, and her saying I love the way you think but I hate the way you act! It's a really endearing song though. He wrote it; and if he says that's it's about his son then okay.

This song is clearly about a girl whom he loves deeply who truly has his heart, probably always will, she apparently, had to leave for some reason, maybe abruptly, in search of something. When she comes back, maybe he can tell she didn't find what she was looking for or maybe he hopes it's him she discovers, like she loves him so deeply too. Maybe she thought it would be all fun in the sun; " the pain and laughter brought you to your knees." While she was away, perhaps he found someone else. But he still loves and his heart is always with her. She's only happy running free. This is one of my favorite songs ever, this should have been a big, big hit for him. I love this song it touches my soul.

This is such a sad but hopeful song. I think it is about knowing someone is going to die and when he does, you know that he has gone to be with the Lord. You find peace and comfort in that.

I think it's about someone he has always loved and they have come back together again, after being in bad relationships with other people, they meet up again and have the feelings of love like it was new all over again. She has always been in his heart and he realizes that she's his "Beloved One". Beautiful..Beautiful.

Well, an "Omen" is a warning about something; so, maybe he had insight into a sitituation or expectation of something that he thought came from God hence the "Amen". Apparently, it didn't come to pass or didn't work out as he expected, so he's hurt and left wondering what happened. He always gives reference in many of his songs, to seeing "your face again". So I think the song is about an anticipated relationship with the the person whose "face he always wants to see again". He always just sees her briefly and she's gone. I think they both have a mutual love for each other but for some reason they can not get it together; (perhaps it's a first love or someone that he never gets a chance to really express his love). He thought it would have happened by now; "But old friends just become old strangers between the darkness and the dawn". He's even tried to live in her world or understand things to get close to her. " I've put your world in my veins" and still nothing comes. So, he loves her and wants her and knows without a doubt that they should be together and he needs to find her. This is truly a beautiful song and it makes me cry, because the hurt is so raw and deep in his voice you feel it's his real emotion and no one should hurt like that. It makes me wish that I could find her and help them be together.
