| Say Anything – Into the Night Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Keep in mind: the songs off of Baseball are mostly written very early on in Max Bemis's life, mostly from the middle of his teen years. Teenagers aren't always going to hit spot on with figurative language. The fact that he came up with his own metaphor should be respected, even if you dislike it. | |

Here is my line-by-line interpretation: And they don't see that my smile is stitched And it's peeling off, inch by inch (He pretends to be happy, but he's really just sinking into a deeper depression.) And when it goes, my whole disguise will slither off before your eyes (When he finally gets so depressed that he can't bear to pretend to be happy, people will finally see just how he feels.) And I'll stand nude My eyes roll out, reveal my skull; a cave of doubt (This can be thought of in two ways, though those two ways could act as one: He'll simply reveal everything, especially his pessimism.) My surgery's done You gave the knife I need you here to save my life (I'm not so sure about this part... maybe he's saying he feels like this because of who the song is addressed to, or that he got stabbed in the back but the only one who can make him feel better is the one who did it?) So please stay in tonight Pull the soul from my eyes Pull the soul from my eyes and say goodnight (Again, interpreted in two ways: Basically, he's begging whoever to just stay with him for once, so let him tell them everything/have meaningful sex with them and to stay through the entire night. Could be talking about one-night stands, maybe?) Just stay at home, strip me down to the bone I can't be alone (Again, the same thing, two interpretations: This is the meaningful sex versus one-night stands thing along with revealing everything about himself and him saying he can't be without the addressee.) And they don't see the nagging stress That beats and beats inside my chest (Living is difficult and almost unbearable.) Encase my heart to keep it safe where no one else can make it break (He reverts to keeping to himself so that no one else can hurt him.) And all the schools they sent me to The upper class ants march two by two A 4.0 for each brave boy Well I won't fuck with them anymore (Hmmmm... another tricky one. This is too interpret-y for me.) So please stay in tonight Pull the soul from my eyes Pull the soul from my eyes and say goodnight Just stay at home, strip me down to the bone I can't be alone (Same as before.) And the days go by I still believe there is someone who can comfort me (He still has hope for someone to save him.) And the days go by I still believe there's a lonesome place for me (That hope is somewhat lessened, but still there.) So please stay in tonight Pull the soul from my eyes Pull the soul from my eyes and say goodnight Just stay at home, strip me down to the bone I can't be alone So please stay in tonight Pull the soul from my eyes Pull the soul from my eyes and say goodnight Just stay at home, strip me down to the bone I can't be alone (Samee.) Idk. That's what I gather. I guess that's on a more personal level for me, though. :/ |

| Cute Is What We Aim For – Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |

There are two ways I interpret this song: First: It's about having a relationship while being on tour and cheating on her because he thinks he doesn’t love her, and realizes he does when she tries to leave. Second - the better one: It's uber metaphorical. "The roads are wrapped around your waist They lead me place to place I take trips from hip to hip In fact I’ve made a career out of it.” The ‘roads’ of his life revolve around important girls he’s been with. He bases his decisions on what they want/need. He’s been with multiple girls. He uses touring to get laid? Idk… “I’ve always thought the left was your strongest side But when it comes to you, now I can’t decide It’s only a matter of time.” Your heart is on your left. He always thought he followed his heart. He meets a girl that he thinks he doesn’t particularly love, but is really attracted to. Their relationship is doomed. “I need the product of your fears In the form of tears It’s the only way I can survive It breaks my heart to see you crying, baby It’s the only way I'll stay alive.” He realizes he loves her? And needs her to give him signs that she loves him back? He feels like he needs her… and seeing her hurt because of him (like… he threatens to leave and she starts crying or something) lets him know that she cares? “Green eyes, blue skies Natural disasters when she cries Green eyes, they’re mine It’s only a matter of time.” Her eyes are green? They spent a lot of time in beautiful, clear-skied days? … Or one specific memory of them spending time in blue skies. She has green eyes, and she is his. He still feels like their relationship is doomed? “Like the climate, You never know what weather you get No denying, You’re the habit that I can’t quit It’s only a matter of mine.” Climates are different, therefore different weather comes from them. She’s unpredictable, and he likes it. He admits, no matter how reluctantly, that he needs her. It’s his problem to deal with, and he wants to deal with it alone. “I need the product of your fears In the form of tears It’s the only way I can survive It breaks my heart to see you crying, baby It’s the only way I'll stay alive Green eyes, blue skies Natural disasters when she cries Green eyes, they’re mine It’s only a matter of time It’s only a matter of time.” Same as before. “Rotating, I’m shaking I hope you turn around in time.” Things are getting rocky and she’s leaving him. He hopes she comes back. “Tides changing, I’m waiting You and I are one of a kind (You’re changing)” Things are becoming different between them, like it’s no longer a cycle or specific agenda. He’s reminding her that he’s there for her and that they have something special, but she’s still pulling away? “I’ve been both hemispheres over my short years I still can’t pick my favorite place (Don't make me)” He’s been in relationships where he’s been there just for the physical side and he’s had this relationship where he actually loves her. He doesn’t know which side he likes better. “The contour on your lips, they match the continents And I still love the way that you taste.” She’s just like any other girl he’s had, but different? … Because he actually loves her AND her body? “I need the product of your fears In the form of tears It’s the only way I can survive It breaks my heart to see you crying, baby It’s the only way I'll stay alive (Stay alive) Green eyes, blue skies Natural disasters when she cries Green eyes, they’re mine It’s only a matter of time (Only a matter of time) It’s only a matter of time." The same as before. Idk. Only my interpretation. |

(I think it's 'I love the way you talk on top OF me' and 'I'm gonna MEET you face to face.') This is a cute song. Sexual, yes. But cute. :) |

| Envy on the Coast – Starving Your Friends Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think this song is about being so captivated by a person and wanting to live up to any expectations they have of you - or at least you think they have of you - but, instead, feeling weak after one 'failure' and beginning to give up. After you start to throw it all away, you find yourself still being captivated and you see that they're starting to notice you, but you still feel weak and unworthy. They've gotten to know you, but you just can't handle it. Just my interpretation. Too much of my own love-life drama, haha. As some of you have said, it could also be about struggling to make it and make a difference, wanting to give up and not feeling like you can do it, and then finally beginning to get there only to start feeling unworthy again and giving it up. |

| Flyleaf – Amy Says Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song is about someone near and dear to Lacey - this could include herself - who feels so depressed and down on the world, she's lost hope and is leaning on a friend to help her. Then, the girl finds God / someone to make her happy and Lacey knows that she helped her get to this place. | |

|
Again, two ways to read it: Lacey's praising God for loving her and letting her live. Plus, helping to get her through all the rough times so she could finally find him. Or, Lacey's talking about a lover that she feels so much for that she just can't stop thinking about them and being with them is pure bliss. I still love it. |

| Flyleaf – I'm Sorry Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
There are two ways to see this: One - Lacey was abused by someone she loved / trusted and is trying to forget it all and let go. But, she can't do this and starts growing up too fast to try to get her mind off of it. She then finds God and feels like He's already forgiven her for everything and now SHE feels that she can let go. Two - Basically the latter, except she finds a person that helps her heal and forget about it because they make her happy and let her know that it's okay. It depends, but I love the song, nonetheless. |

| Flyleaf – Penholder Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
There are really two ways to see this: Lacey's trying to portray that she feels she doesn't deserve all the credit and recognition for her work because it's all because of God that she does it and He made it that way. Then, there's the chance that it's about betrayal or violation. The way the song just sounds and makes me feel is like something bad happened and this is her way of venting her anger for it. Either way, it's a lovely song. |
