Nine Inch Nails – Mr. Self Destruct Lyrics 18 years ago
I found it interesting how the overall beat of the song contributed to its message. It builds up as the song progresses in its early stages and soon sets a new, violent beat that is sustained throughout the rest of it (of course, except for the section where it mellows out). I saw it representing the struggle over power between the "human" side of us and the "mechanical" side. It also reflects what the machine does, it starts out slow, like a snowball effect, but the more power it is allowed, the more it dominates the song, which might be represented as the individual. The section where it does mellow out could symbolize how the human side has such little power, showing up for just a short duration and being drowned out completely by the machine in such a short period. At the end, the beat just takes over the song completely, moving in a new direction with a crazy guitar solo (the machine is just...well g-balling the individual so that he is completely taken over).

Nine Inch Nails – God Given Lyrics 18 years ago
i saw this as just criticism towards religion in general (of course it shouldnt be directed to milder versions of religion). It starts out right at the beginning of the song, "hey man please dont make a sound", which kinda relates to how some religious groups embrace conformity and discourage people from opposing its institutions, no matter how corrupt it is.
There are alotta embedded messages, but i think the main point is that sometimes religion gets hypocritical (holy wars??), and its rules are just messed up to the core. It promotes equality, but of course, only equality to a certain elite of divine people (people who see their "skin" as something that can judge whether you are holy or vile). What i really found interesting though is how he continually repeats, "come on, sing along, everybody now". I kinda trent mocking hymns/prayer in that line.

Nine Inch Nails – Hyperpower! Lyrics 18 years ago
Personally, i saw this song as more than just an intro to get you pumped up (even though it does a fuckn awesome job of doin that). I saw a recurring theme throughout year zero, its about us as humans quickly descending into oblivon because of our ignorance towards the consequences of our actions. Just look at the beat that is contstantly having something added into it, it starts out simple enough (kinda like early humans), but gets more complicated as time goes on, just as we are doing now. Eventually it becoes this distorted kind of beat with screams and whatnot, kinda foreshadwing what will eventually become of humanity if be overlook all the consequences of ouractions. I saw the whole song as like a snowball effect kinda.
