| Shinedown – All I Ever Wanted Lyrics | 18 years ago |

It's NOT about a vampire, I assure you. If I sum up my idea, it's this - All he wanted in his life was a place to call home. A place of his own, away from the pain, mistakes, and misery which has clearly followed him thus far. |

| In my opinion it revolves around the belief of living your life. I've been to places you'll never find. The empty place that you call home won't be given to future years. This other person is sitting in one place, doing nothing, feeling nothing, one side of the 'platinum door'. As opposed to who's singing, letting the tide take them where it will. | |

I think people get too caught up on the words evil angel, relating them to religion. In all honesty, I think this is a struggle with depression and suicide. The 'Evil Angel' is some form of escape or release he knows to be wrong. It is his angel, what keeps him going, yet evil for its moral implications. The second verse really helps with this depression theory - I'm a believer, nothing could be worse All these imaginary friends Hiding betrayal, driving the nail Hopeing to find a savior His belief is that nothing could be worse. In his life. Imaginary friends, either implying insanity or falseness, constantly bringing him down and hurting him. Hopeing to find a saviour he struggles on in life. When it talks about remember and surrender... What do you do when you're hurt? You try to forget. Don't remember. He knows what he could do is wrong. Don't give in to it, be strong. Don't surrender. Finally, the chorus. Put me to sleep. Either suicide or some form of release to make him asleep to himself. Open your wings. Embrace me, hold me, comfort me, protect me. Fly OVER me. Not fly TO me. Pass me over, don't touch me. Why can't I breathe? Because it's too late. |

Well, in my opinion he's talking about people choosing ego, ability, or selfish paths over people. The song's message is simple - Love is all you need. Don't be superior if it leads to loneliness. Seems to me he'd rather be inferior with love. I love how it pretty much says 'Would you sacrifice love for your own gain? Would you be miserable to be the best? Would you be the king, without a queen?' |
