Joni was inspired to write this song when she looked out of her hotel window at Hawaii's beautiful landscape, then looked down and saw the car parking lot. I'm assuming that Joni was staying at the Royal Hawaiian (the pink hotel), which is why it was mentioned. The tree museum is Foster Botanical Garden in Waikiki. This song, written by a foreigner to Hawaii, really speaks for Hawaiian activism and environmental causes the world over. |

The song's meaning is so simple, so I'm not surprised that no one's commented on it. It's such a great song, though. The acoustic version on her MySpace speaks a lot more to me than the beat-driven one. |
