The song was written in tribute to Duke Ellington, the influential jazz legend who had died in 1974. The lyrics also refer to Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. |

I think "gulf stream through the open door" could mean somebody coming back, a warm feeling so to speak? |

I think that this song could be explaining how sometimes doing nothing in life can cause just as much hurt to people around us. We all have responsibilities to manage our relationships rather than just expect everything to run smoothly with no one at the wheel so to speak! Basically speaking its about maintaining a relationship, long or short distance? |

Unreal song, sums up the feeling of falling in love, it's like looking at someone for the first time when the penny drops (Cause holy cow, I love your eyes
And only now I see the light). Totally agree with everyone else, a real feel good factor song. |

I think this song is about an individual who has confidence issues with himself, but plays (the clown) as a smoke screen (getting drunk/drugs etc.) when he's with his friends/associates to mask the real issue's that he is just as insecure if not more insecure than the rest of us, but when doing these things, he inadvertently, ends us saying and doing things that he really doesn't want or mean to do (too late always to wash your face and hands), hence the intro, Why must I always play the clown? |

| Kaiser Chiefs – Love's Not A Competition (But I'm Winning) Lyrics

This song is beautifully written, the lyrics (The trick is, getting you to think that all this, was your idea) suggest a controlling partner, who is being caught out by their partner, putting them under a new light.I'm not sure, what's truly altruistic, any more, could mean everything that was done in the relationship was not questioned before, but now that the spouse is trying to break free from the (mental shackles), new questions are risen that might not have been before, therefore putting a relationship under an uncertain strain (At least I thought I was, but there's no way of knowing). I think this track in particular has some 'Smiths' influence which makes for a good lyrical and musical track.
Sorry if no-one gets what I'm trying to say this is my first review, thank you! |
