Oh, I missed something on my above post. About Kate, she died from a heroin overdose when she was 8 months pregnant with Bert's child, so, when the lyrics say "I squoze so hard I stopped your heart from beating" Maybe it meant that he loved her so much that he got her pregnant and she was going to have his child. Maybe since he was into heroin and other hard drugs back then, he somehow influenced Kate (I'm not sure if she was already doing drugs before that...) into doing them, too, which ultimately killed her and his child... Taking them both away from him... I swear I'm about to cry! I have new found respect for Bert for making it through that. |

Okay, apparently what I get from this song is a lot different than other people. I have a different understanding of it than Bert making it contradictory because he just wanted it to rhyme or whatever. Okay, I think what it means here is that whatever happened, either David Bowie or Kate, happened so suddenly that it caught him off guard and he had to deal with it before it could really sink in. It numbed him. He felt fine. He remembers them happily, hence, "I still see you lying next to me." I need something else Would someone please just give me Hit me, knock me out And let me go back to sleep I can laugh All I want inside I still am empty So deep that it didn't even bleed and catch me I... He knows there's something wrong with him, and whatever the people are doing to try to make him feel better are making him feel worse, because he realizes that he's supposed to feel devastated. He feels fine, he can laugh all he wants to, but it's wrong. I guess, I remember every glance you shot me Un-harmed, I'm losing weight and some body heat I squoze so hard I stopped your heart from beating So deep that I didn't even scream fuck me, I.. He's holding onto the memories so that he can feel what he's supposed to feel. He's squeezing the memories so tight of the day when something happened to Kate or David Bowie, (At this point, I believe it is about Kate, how maybe he clung to her so much that eventually she just turned him away, thus "stopping her heart from beating" because she doesn't care for him anymore) . But it doesn't work in the end. I'll be just fine Pretending I'm not I'm far from lonely And it's all that I've got He's pretending that he's not okay because that's how it's supposed to be, but he's not lonely at all. He's faking. It's all that he's got to hold onto, to make him feel human. That's how I interpret the song... Anyway, go ahead, make fun of me :( |

Well, sorry to bring this back up since we've gone *GASP* 7 comments (3 of which were written by the same person) without bringing this back up again, but when I heard the song it sounded like "Like hives need a bee." Yes, it sounds stupid to me now, but it made sense to me at the time. By the way, yes, the person who wrote "He's VERY religious so this song is about his amazing connection with God," was an idiot for thinking that just because he's religious means every song has to be about God, BUT!!!! You are also pretty hypocritical... for thinking that it can't possibly be about God because that's just too cliche or something like that. And God and all words referring to him don't have to be completely capitalized just to show you're talking about Him... And you ARE an immature little cookie, outofrhythm93!!! |

I have a friend who attempted suicide, and after that, I knew it was only a matter of time until it happened again. So, after the first time, I was constantly thinking, "Just give me some time to help you, before you try again. I want to be able to give you a reason to stay." And I think that everyone who has had some encounter with suicide has had those thoughts of, 'How could you do this?' 'I had no idea things were this bad.' And you just wish they would tell you the reason why. You constantly feel like the simplest thing could send them over the edge, and it ends up putting YOUR life in turmoil, when they think that it's only hurting themselves. So, that's what I think this song is doing. Trying to convey those feelings of desperation that come along with the subject of suicide. Sorry for the rant... Just had to put my experience in. |

| I heard in (I think) an acoustic version of the song where the words were kind of slowed down, and it's definitely "Is gonna be the shit, so silly". I love this song, it's so catchy! When I was on my plane back from my winter break, I was listening to this song, and I conjured up all of these images for what the music video might be like. It was really weird. Out of nowhere I made this image of a girl trying to commit suicide because she was abused by her dad after her mother died. The intro where it's just music, I visualized her being abused by her dad. when the lyrics start, she runs to her room and pulls out all of these pictures of her and her mom on the beach. And she's in her own world and wishes her mother was there to help her. Then she starts to imagine herself in heaven with her mother, so close that she can signal UFO's with only her lighter. Then her dad storms in, and hits her, and pushes her into the wall (for no apparent reason). He walks out the door again, and the girl makes up her mind that everything would be so much better if her mother were with her again, and decides to commit suicide by jumping out of the apartment window. at the end of the "UFO" verse, Where it goes "and in this moment I am happy" and you hear a sound like glass breaking, I imagine that that's her breaking through the glass window. And the rest of the song is her thoughts as she flies through the air. I know it sounds morbid and cliche, but that's what I imagined the song was about. I was WAY off. Just my take on it. |

I think that the whole: "Put your hands in the air and don't make a sound But don't get the wrong idea We're gonna shoot you We're gonna shoot you And there's nothing in your head or pocket, throat or wallet That could change just how this goes" Means that theyre not even going to give you the benefit of the doubt. It's saying that even if you do exactly what they say, you're still going to end up the same way that you would have if you hadn't done anything they said. "but don't get the wrong idea, we're gonna shoot you" means they arent going to let you live, no matter what you do. So you can base the rest off of THAT meaning. lol, I didn't even really say anything about the song.. XD |
