I totally disagree when he says "you" I think he is referring to heroin, talking about the depth and struggle to keep crawling and moving through to find some meaning behind life in a world that seems meaningless. But I've also thought when you think about it as if the song is being played in reverse this is a commentary on the Bush presidency and how the government is constantly putting me in front of you, while saying to us its you before me. Trust me I met Jorgan Snolich in my buddies garage 7 years ago and asked him what it was about. He said something along these lines. Anyway just my two cents! |

Just a small piece that I haven't seen mentioned. "I'm getting 'tied' I'm forgetting why" isn't referring to getting tied into a relationship or anything. He's referring to the getting ready he has been talking about. Getting tied as in putting on his tie which is referring to getting all dressed up to go to some event for this newly stressful life that is causing crankiness and short tempers and eating away at the important parts of his life. This line is saying "I'm forgetting why I'm doing any of this, I'm doing it because I think I'm supposed to but I've forgotten why I want to do what I'm supposed to when it leads to this." Its a song that relates to being a yuppie and the changes and problems that come with this transition. He mentions pinning the flowers on and he can tie his tie all by himself to give the feeling of being a young professional where those aspects of getting ready still stand out as being accomplishments or landmarks in a sense. |

Meaning they look perfect from far away but when you get close you see them for what they really are *I wanna see it when faces fade away= He wants to see it when she realizes this and leaves them like she left him *I want specifics...I you to do me what to show= Saying he wants the opposite of all of this, he knows what he wants and wishes she thought of it more simply and was satisfied, but they are inverted and opposite (much like the sentences). Think of the inverse of the sentences of being what the girl wants. He isn't making verbal sense but he is stating he doesn't want this. *I wanna see movies of my dreams= A way of saying he wants his dreams to play out, to come true *I wanna see when you get stoned on a cloudy...= He wants to see it when she realizes what had just happened sitting alone, lonely, and reflective. *I wanna see it untame itself and break its owner= He wants to see when her realization "untames itself" and changes her, breaks her in a way, so she can finally be real. |

He expects it to be just another quick romance, as usual. He is an unstoppable and moving through life and girls without worry. Didn't understand what to see Yeah, then I got a different view It's you...no. Never understood love, but she changed it for him and he thinks he might be in love with one girl. I think the "its you...no" signifies his initial realization that he likes her a bit more than usual but the "...no" signifies time passing and him getting restless and falling back into old ways. Wait, I'm gonna give it a break. I'm not you friend, I never was. I said wait, I'm gonna give it a break. I'm not your friend, I never was. This hops to her leaving him. Him saying the basic things when she says she loves him but she needs a break and hopefully they can be good friends. This is him trying to convince her to stay. This chorus is separate from the verse's and is more a reactionary to the story told by the entire song. So many fish there in the sea She wanted him, he wanted me That's just a phase, it's got to pass I was a train moving too fast This is where I think I and many others have misinterpreted the song. The line seems out of place but I am about to clear it up.. Starts off "so many fish..." but this time it is alluding to his eyes and mind starting to wander. Now here's the line "she wanted him, he wanted me." No he didn't turn gay, no the other guy doesn't want to kick his ass. He is keeping the words in the same form as in the first verse. She=her He=him, the storyteller. She still wanted him, but he wanted himself. He had become selfish, longing for the crazy random nights of his past. Yeah, I know you warned me But this is too important Now I got a different view It's you... Pretty self explanatory, she warned him she was gonna leave, but he didn't believe her and refused to change, he kept distancing himself and investing his emotions in things other than her. But now that she is leaving he is willingly admitting "yeah, I know you warned me" but it is too important and the reality of what he had is now blatantly clear. Why can't you wait? I'm gonna give it a break I'm not you friend, I never was I said wait, I'm gonna give it a break I'm not you friend, I never was. And he continues to plead, to no avail. Sad song of someone coming to realization to late and the other not being able to accept what was once all they ever wanted. |

The guy is a womanizer he moves from one to the next over and over. But this is a story of a guy getting a different point of view but too late. He didn't handle the relationship correctly he was getting stuck in his same cycle. Which is where we pickup, she is leaving him, he didn't realize what he had. "Wait I'm not gonna give it a break" He's telling her not to leave ,Shes telling him its over, or she needs space and time, to recover, she asks for a break. "Im not your friend I never was" She says the typical lets be friends maybe it will work out someday. He is grasping at straws he's not her friend they never were or could be, it is past that point. She moves on to another guy, and the new guy doesnt like him being around. He thinks this new love is just a phase. And once again he realizes he was a train moving to fast. The rest is self explanatory. He knows he was warned, but he realizes now, she is the one who changed his outlook, and he's dying to show her the change.
