Anairiol- I definitely think your interpretation makes more sense. To be honest, it's nice that the band said exactly what the song means, but I think I'll keep looking at the song the way I always thought it was.... I think it's somebody who's gone insane. They're watching their loved one through the glass, and they're trying to remind their wife (girlfriend, mother, father, sibling, whatever) that they're still a person. But no-one ever tells you that forever feels like home/Sitting all alone inside your head= they don't have anyone they can talk to who really understands them or how they feel. They are cooped up inside their own head and are all alone in the world. When something like a soul becomes initialized/folded up like paper dolls= other people see the person as something inhuman now, something that doesn't have a soul. I'm pretty you've got the lyrics wrong at one point, so I'll interpret what I thought the lyrics were- How much is real?/So much to question/an epidemic of the mannequins/contaminating everything= he isn't sure what's real and what's not anymore, and 'the mannequins' are the people he sees in his hallucinations who have contaminated everything he used to have. And it's the stars that shine for you/...it's the stars that lie to you= 'the stars' are the things the person looking at him loved about him, and she or he is still trying to see the patient through the filter of those memories. These memories lie to the viewer, because they are nothing like what the person in now, but they also give the viewer hope that someday the patient will get better. |

Well, I do have to say that I know how some people feel- because it's definitely true that from what I've heard of BFS they do a lot of fun, light songs- but that's okay too. I love listening to really deep songs and really sad songs, but BFS grabs my attention just because their songs are so fun to listen to. radio! |

| AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Oh, oh dear. Oh dear. Um. I don't think they're talking about Jesus imagery. THANK YOU Nesshim for bringing up my point! I think it's absolutely a song about the Devil or someone else in mythology who has a similar story. Especially all the lines about stars...Lucifer Morningstar is a fairly common name for the Devil, and stars are often used as metaphors for angels. 'Dreams of his crash'...I think maybe the 'he' is Lucifer, the 'we' is fallen angels in general. 'Miss Murder'...this, on the other hand, might be God. perhaps the song itself is trying to give the story of Lucifer's point of view? Maybe the songwriter saw the Devil as a fairly tragic character- I know I do. It's saying something like he feels that God killed him in a way- after all, there are also some versions of the story- Muslim versions, I believe, they're really quite interesting- where all the Devil did was refuse to bow down to humans when God told him to, because he loved God so much that he didn't want to put anything else above Him. Anyhow. Love the song, love the band, I'll go away and leave you folks alone. xD |

| David Usher – Ugly is Beautiful Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song creepily fits two of my characters. It's kind of scary, actually...but anyways, what i think this song means is something like this- He used to hate this girl for some unspecified reason, and thought he always would, but then he starts falling in love with her. Stood on the rooftop scream at the sky again= he's angry that he can't control how he feels Ugly is beautiful= what used to be ugly to him is suddenly wonderful All the words we throw away/like paper cuts they just keep piling= whenever he tries to talk to her he can't do it, and every time he tries and fails it cuts him End of the world we've known= life as they knew it isn't working out anymore, it's changed irrevocably Etc., etc. I could go on, but I won't. *cough* |

Hey, though I'd just comment on some of the mythological/religious stuff in this song, bause I'm a total mythology nerd. Also because I just heard this song, loved it, and felt the need to go rant about it. xD Okay, so Otep- the name itself- I'm sure Otep was an ancient Egyptian goddess or god of the dead. They had a few. At least my guess is it'd be a combination of a few different names, but it sounds super familiar. Thanatos was the ancient Greek god of death. most people assume that this was Hades, but there's a difference- Hades ruled the underworld alongside Persephone (at least for half of the year, that's a long story) and Thanatos was the actual god of death itself. i might have my facts wrong on the first two, but the one I'm sure of is this- the seraphim are the group of angels closest to God in Catholicism. The Nephilim, on the other hand, were the children of angels and humans, and I'm pretty sure they weren't held in a very good light. I think they were all killed. yes. So that kind of explains the whole seraphim-to-nephilim thing. Okay, I should probably shut up now. xD I agree with Emby on almost all counts...but I think maybe the first verse might be referring to a relationship. maybe her boyfriend broke up with her and she committed suicide, or maybe she refused to leave him and he killed her? The 'clipping the wings of fallen angels' line strikes me as saying something like she's trying to do something that's already been done, punishing someone else when they've already been hurt enough, if that makes any sense... I've got a really weird mind. You can tell. >> |
