i always thought this was a sad but beautiful song, telling of a tragic story. a man laments about his lost love. he wants to tell her how much he loves her but she is already with/married to another man. he watches the lady with that man, who he deems is not good enough for her because the man won't care for her like he does. he sees the man as a vain and possesive person who 'bought her soul', and puts golden rings on her hands like he 'owns a bird that sings'. then he remembers the time when he danced with the lady, their dance so beautiful and passionate that even the angels run and hide their beautiful wings. he still has faith that she loves him, although he suffers the jealousy watching her with that man. his 'soul's salvation' now depends on fate. then he sees that the lady is not happy and is mistreated by that man. however the lady cannot leave that man or cruel fate has killed the one he loves. he regrets now and says if he had a chance to turn back time, he'd 'destroy the dark machineries of fate'. |
