Clearly he cheated on her. He says it in the first few lines "Well the truth it fell so heavy Like a hammer through the room That I could choose another over her" If you link the words together the "truth" that he is referring to is that he chose another over her. It does get confusing when he claims that he's been framed, but perhaps he is saying that someone beat him to telling her and he didn't get to tell her himself. |

| He is comforting her from something that has happened to her, maybe someone broke her heart and he wants to be the one to hold her and protect her and make her happy and he is telling her she has to let go of whatever she is getting over or she can't be happy. He could hold her forever if that is what it would take to make her not be sad. This song is beautiful. I fully plan on using this song as my wedding song. | |

She's got an addiction to something is what I am getting out of the line "The very things that make you live are killing you". She lives for her addictions but they are destroying her and she doesn't see that. He tried to stick it out because he loves her, but he can't do it anymore, can't watch her kill herself. She tried to make it work, but she sees what she is doing to him, but she can't control her addiction. He loves her and even though he can't be with her, he will still care about her and protect her and he knows she feels the same. This song kinda reminds me of my own relationship, I am the one that is being sung to. However, my "addiction" is wanting to keep my boyfriend and hang on to our love. I feel like he is trying to distance himself from me, possibly even end the relationship. I think he cares about me, even loves me, but maybe he feels like I want too much from him that he can't give to me and I am more consumed by holding on to what we had than he is. I am the one watching him "shut down" from being so unhappy because he doesn't want to hurt me. I just realized that I love and I hate this song. |

This person is desperately hopeless and depressed and is either consumed by his grief or is contemplating suicide because he already feels dead and doesn't see it getting better. He has never been happy and doesn't see a way to be that way. At the beginning of the song, he is watching someone he loves (probably his lover because he speaks of them being intimate) be careless and happy and realizes he has never felt that feeling. He could also be battling an addiction that he can't beat. "Well I looked my demons in the eye Laid bare my chest said do your best destroy me See I've been to hell and back so many times I must admit you kinda bore me" says to me that he is feeling defeated by something that has control of him and he's tried to overcome it but whatever it is keeps bringing him back down. |

| Kate Bush – This Woman's Work Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I would interpret this particular song a lot differenly than I have read already. My father passed away recently and a friend of mine gave me this song as a little encouragement to help me see that I am strong enough to move forward with my life after this terrible thing happened to me. However, when I read the lyrics and listen to the emotion of the song, to me it is about a woman giving birth to a child and she is going die delivering this child, but she has to find the strength to deliver the baby or they will both die. She is bringing up the father's role because now it's all up to him. "Pray God you can cope. I stand outside this woman's work, This woman's world. Ooh, it's hard on the man, Now his part is over. Now starts the craft of the father." He is no longer going to be her husband or his own man, he's going to have to take care of this baby being born because she is on her way out and the last thing she's going to do is have their baby. She is on the outside watching all of this, probably in a state somewhere between life and death but if she let's go, they both die. She is also realizing that there is a lot that was never done or said and she is expressing regret. I have never seen the video, but I don't always judge the meanings of a song on the videos, because they don't always follow the intended meaning. |
