I've always had the feeling that this song is about coming too a brand new city to settle down. You've left your old life and love behind, and are about to start over. The third verse, is about the person reflecting over the new canges in his own quiet place, trying to see his own roots. Standing alone on a beach, where the waves keeps rolling in, is about the fact thant everything is changing, always. And the beach can often bee looked at as unaffected by man. The main person just has too float along with the changes, and try to make the best of it, even though he might not like it |
