Gorilla Biscuits – New Direction Lyrics 18 years ago
the intent behind this song makes me feel good. but the utopian ideas of the hardcore community is something i hope everyone woudl be able to tap into for a short time. i truly believe it's more of a thing reserved for youth and during the maturing years. but a true time indeed in one's life where WE choose the things that matter. settign aside the love of money for the love of the 'cause or whatever it may be. friendships..the scene...etc.

i like he said 'hats off to bands that change' by not repeating the nonsense he sings against in this song commands respect. as we know civ and others in the band have themselves changed and 'gone seperate ways' and lost the 'heart
'which is spoken of in this song.

a favorite song opf mine indeed.... timeless as well. this song will be just as good in another 10 years from now.

Zyon – Chasing The Dragon Lyrics 18 years ago
beautiful song.
vauge enough that many can enjoy and apply our own experiences to.it's about persoanl experiences, and a loss of dreams..... and wanting an escape from a reality that is all too true. kind of depressing if you think about it. but a beautiful song nonetheless.

monroe park is a park adjacent to VCU where many homeless persons tend to gather, it is also the location of various 'food not bombs' areas where food is served mainly to the homeless. the song is about the happenings and hostory of the park itself.

Avail – Mr. Morgan Lyrics 18 years ago
mr. morgan was a homeless man in richmond that was murdered, if i recall correctly. there were details about his death that i cant recall but it was a senseless murder whatever it was. he was the inspiration behind the song. missing our prime...being looked down upon...look the part, or you wont get it... living in the past... it's about growing up, not from youth perhaps, but the ever changing process... a common theme in avail songs.

The Gloria Record – Salvation Army Lyrics 18 years ago
i can agree with the cynicism of the song. but i'll add that i see it as a request, or a plea for that good feeling of being drawn again to the things he knows to be dear to his heart. "may be down but not out, my soul got lost along the way" tells me he is expressing a loss of direction and struggling with issues concerning this world vs. the next world. that which is temproary vs. eternal.

Zookeeper – Trumpets Lyrics 18 years ago
i agree that many songs are written for a listener to enjoy them as they wish, and therefore i enjoy reading what others percieve a meaning of a song to be. when lyrics are vague it leaves for a greater range of interpretation. our personal influences and experiences are what we draw from when deciphering another's open-ended lyrics. therefore...

ive often appreciated Chris Simpson's lyrics for thier often "crossing the line" toward scriptural and christian perspectives. this song i feel is also in that thought line. trumpets of course being that final sound that will at any time be heard to call believers home with our savior (1corinthians 15:52) which is also a topic he has alluded to in previous songs ('my fineral party' - The Gloria Record)
the reference to a jungle could suggest the crazyness of the world, or tour, or perhaps an antithesis of the wilderness as it is spoken of in scripture, but its difficult for me to explain this one directly, and perhaps im way off from any original intent of his with that thonught.
but i moreso thing of the jungle and the first few lines speaking of tour and sleeping on floors and doing what it takes to travel as a band...where technically every day is "work" or playing a show (odd cause he used to describe evey show as an attempt to inspire the audience, as ive reaad a few times how he would be dissapointed if he felt the show was uninspiring, another topic he's sung about)

the chours, as it may be called, i 'hear' suggesting that there is a counting of the day, waiting in anticipation for that trumpet sound, whart a glorious day it will be! and "Yeah it looks like we're alive
But it looks like we're all eyes" with the word BUT being most important suggesting a change of direction in thought... saying 'well, we are alive, BUT we're all eyes' meaning NO EARS and it will be the ears that hear the trumpet! we can get so caught up in the world, which draws us in with eyes, lust, and entertainment, but it is our ears that are used to truly learn of another or of anything of much credit in this world, nosomuch the eyes., it is the ears. more importantly it will be the ears, not eyes that will hear the trumpet. when one is all eyes and no ears, you have lost focus... ironically. lost focus on the purposes of life. the trumpets are NEAR as chris says... near, meaning at any moment. like he wrote and sung in 'my funeral party' saying "this could be the day i go........" i hope it is, i hope it is today. Chris has again inspired me with his words. and for that i am thankful.
