how about clocks being reset and pendulums held because tomorrow is cancelled not because she's dead but because things are being put on hold. they are not moving forward at the speed he would like. everything is being held in suspense. like a pendulum held it relates to the first verse where he says he can't think of anything else... now he's elaborating, saying not only can i not stop thinking about you, but now i can't do anything about it because tomorrow's been canceled furthermore, perhaps "knowing your name" shouldn't be taken strictly literally. it pertains to knowing about you. knowing who you are. defining us and our relationship. and "repeating your name" means continuing their relationship, day after day. perhaps an allusion to lovemaking as well |

I have to disagree. Anything who thinks this song can be only "about" one thing is a fool. Lyrics are often non-specific enough that they can relate to many specific situations. It is true that perhaps the writer had a situation of mental illness in mind when he wrote it; it is also possible that he had a myriad of stories/themes in his head from which he wrote these lyrics. I relate this song to simply feeling depressed and socially anxious. A wish that others wouldn't be in such a rush..that they'd stay and get to know me, or simply laugh off my awkwardness or nervousness and welcome me into feeling better/more comfortable. A wish they wouldn't be so quick to judge and exclude, but a knowledge that they simply don't care enough about our relationship to make an effort, and would rather brush it off. |

| He did. Perhaps he was looking for something he couldn't find. He didn't know what to do, where to go, to find fulfillment. He didn't know how to give/receive love. He didn't know how to feel the way he should be feeling. He didn't know how to bond, how to join. There was a disconnect between himself and others and it grew and grew and grew until he exploded with rage. It is a very sad thing. What a beautiful insight, though, into his world. | |

How about this... what if every life on this earth, or any life anywhere, is just an elaborate dream? What if you are only one being, experiencing each life, each time under the illusion that it is all separate; that you are independent of others. Maybe you will awake from the dream and remember all of the dreams that you've had (all your lives) and everything will make sense. This philosophy is a good motivation to see others more empathetically and insightfully. After all, they are just another dream that you will have to experience. |

For me, this song represents a particular kind of experience I have had. A particular kind of attraction that feels too intense toward someone I just met, haven't spent a lot of time with., haven't done a lot of conversing with, haven't done all of the standard things that people do when they are getting to know one another/dating. Yet this person enters the room and my chest explodes. I don't understand why I feel this way. On what basis? She asks why? "Why do you leave me wanting more" and "do i know you from somewhere"? this has an eerie, spiritual connotation. Suggesting I may know you from a past life. The intensity of such an experience seems too much for the real, practical world. Hence she says "I'm not like this all the time." I have felt this way...confused about the intensity of my reaction to someone, not wanting to scare them...wanting to show them that usually I am a "normal" person, but at the moment, I'm just as scared of my feelings as they may be |

Either way, the song is about the frustration of being held to the wrong expectations and the desire to follow one's true passion. The song supports this theme in both a sexual and educational/motivational context. "you've got your prophets and your mathematicians the vocal fuel of a generation" this part is referring more to the motivational context... but who can deny the sexual power in Sara's voice? and "if you come down on me you'll get what you asked for" |
