It sounds to me like a rockstar who realizes that being in a rock band/on tour isn't as glamorous as it's made out to be. Deafened by sound, blinded by light can explain the aspect of being on tour. "Ugly when bold, boring when plain ... pussy when tender, and brutal when strong" can be about people criticizing their music (someone is always going to complain about their musical direction, regardless of what style they choose) |

^ Thank you JG234! With what you said, the song makes so much sense. Before, I thought it was just kind of random emoish lyrics but just knowing that makes the song brilliant. He's observing the world, and he feels disconnected from it because while his life isn't great, compared to the people he observed, it's not that bad. He's taking notice of the misery that other people go through. |
