Matthew Good – Born Losers Lyrics 16 years ago
aside from the first and last verses the song pretty clearly follows him through his relationship with his ex-wife, which he does not view in a positive light right from the beginning. The first and last verses are a little more abstract.
My understanding of the context of the first and last verse is that he is talking to himself. I don't know anything about he and his ex-wifes relationship, but i see it as maybe an unwillingness to have a child on his or her part. "the life you would not give her" I think that he is talking about himself "traipsing across the continent" on tour, he's been across North America 65 times in the past 14 years. maybe not wanting to give up that lifestyle (break your plans) on his part led to uneasyness about how they would raise a child. this could have been a major contributing factor to the divorse which is why "there ain't nothin to this but your daughter." Thats what I take out of it.
