| the bee reference refers to the change the count goes under. He starts the book as a poor and naive sailor and a friend takes advantage of this and the count ends up in jail where he becomes angry and bitter and bent on revenge - kinda like uma therman in kill bill. (i.e he is no longer sweet to others like honey is sweet but is still a bee which can sting). when he escapes he comes into alot of money by finding treasure, creates the alias the count of monte christo and starts his revenge. In this song, its almost as if she has fallen in love with the count and is trying to get through to him but instead hes so bent on revenge she doesnt get a look in. When she says he gives her a penny for her thoughts, she reffering to the genourous nature that the count gives out his money. He doesnt give her a penny, he gives her more but wont accept the change. Hes kind but will never love her. Thats what i think anyway | |

| I also agree, I think the opening lines are quite revealing though 'never picked only placed before doors'. I think its the portrait of a man whos never wanted for anything, who has everything handed to him on a plate and this mixed with his arrogance means he cant survie in the real world, he creates himself an island he cant escape from and like as Darwin says, he has to evolve or die, and elvolves into someone not as human with less sensitive skin (maybe implying he cant empathize with others) | |

If you look at this without knowing the final monolouge of james joyce's ulysses or the context of the whole book then it could be viewed as 'playful teasing within the joyful bells of blessed union'. But Molly cheats on her husband (around the time he jerks off on a beach) and at this point has been woken by her husband coming to bed and is thinking of her previous lovers and the first time she had sex with her husband. There is a distinct possibility she is masturbating at this point in the book as well (hence the repition of yes-though its not obvious as there is not narration, just the inner workings of her mind) I think Kate bush captures this strongdesire for the sensual very well indeed and the song is indeed very sexy but ambiguous too just like the book. so joyful union? no, but this is the point where she realises she loves her husband so it is also a little touching too but by no means as clean and christian as some comments see it as! |

This song is sooo erotic and sensual and makes me feel very sexy when I listen to it. Its not so much about relationships as such though. I thinks its about the singer wanting to dispell with all the flirtations, all the politness we go through when we're dating and surrender herself to passion and for her man to take this cue. She doesnt want to seduce but wants to be seduced in a passionate, perhaps old fashioned way (because in the old days we always assume its men who went about wooing and seducing) but regardless of that its a super super sexy song! it rocks! |

'you cant break that which isnt yours' is a reference to the spirit of someone. It is a song of defiance not suicide!! its angry and influenced by the tone that the french revolution bought to europe. The percussive sounds could either imitate the idea that there are many singing along with her (becasue when people sing together ina mob they aren't always singing in time) or the stamping of angry feet. In giving her warning that the 'lame, they'll inherit your legs' etc she is speaking out agaisnt her opressors and the idea that if you place anyone under any kind of opression they will eventually rise up and seize back thier freedom. This song is meant to rouse and not depress...shes calling for a revolution (and not in a stalin; lets kill loads and loads of people kinda way) |

| Theres a definite tone of anger as he starts singing and the scratchy violin sound creates alot of tension but also the song becomes more melodic as it continues and by the end becomes something really quite beautiful. Its almost a lesson on how we have to start something and be terrible before we can become good and that perhaps instead of God giving us spiritual peace its actually music. The song finds beauty in the most dreadful noise and simple melody (the asian sounding melody) and develops it into something very spiritual and indeed peaceful. It is almost as if he is crying for peace and finally achieves it. Its complex and wonderful and a fantastic way to start an album. | |
