| Robyn – Be Mine Lyrics

I think the most clever line is: "It's a cold thing you'll never know all the ways I tried". Like what everyone else said, the song is pretty straight forward. Robyn just has an awesome way of explaining and relating it to the listener. She walks a good like between being too vague, and too personal. You feel the emotion without it coming off as whiny. |

| Robyn – Call Your Girlfriend Lyrics

I love the way she directs the conversation. The compassion she feels for the other girl is heartbreaking, but she knows that it has to be done if both the boy and her want to be happy. I especially love the 2nd verse when she's telling him all of the things not to say. Her voice is so powerful and genuine that it actually makes you care not only about Robyn, but also the girlfriend. Beautiful! |

| Regina Spektor – One More Time with Feeling Lyrics

I'm not saying this is definitely what the song is about, but what it made me think of was the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer "Once More With Feeling" where it's revealed that when Buffy died at the end of the season before, she went to heaven, and now is stuck on Earth fighting hell again and that's why she's miserable and disconnected. Some of you have had trouble explaining the "this is why we fight" line, so that kinda fits. Plus all of the dieing hospital imagery makes sense in this context too. I'm just extrapolating though. |

The main separator between Far and her other albums is the production value. Like with any other artist, the more they grow, the better quality of recordings they can afford. Part of Regina's charm is her basic, bare-bones style. It's hard to keep that kind of charm when you have all of the tools of an expensive recording studio at your disposal. I think she does a great job of sticking to her roots, while growing and changing with less to limit her creativity. |

| Milosh – Then it Happened Lyrics

Agreed, this is my favorite song on the "Ghostly Swim". It's a feel good song about just a moment between two people who get drunk and get close but don't want to make anything more out of it than what it is. "Lets get drunk on ourselves". I love it! The song's pretty straightforward until the end:
"You said you would kill me, hands wrapped around my neck, I feel so alive." My personal interpretation is that they both just get so into it that they completely let loose. The confliction between her saying she'd kill him and him feeling so alive shows how sex can be different things to two people. If you look deeper into the song, it almost seems like she is the one saying that it's just sex and she doesnt want to get attached, but he does. He's the one who's been "hanging around you for some time", she splits him open. He tells her to not pretend that she cares, which almost sounds sarcastic: like he's trying to justify it to himself. So in the end, even though just hooking up with no meaning kills him, he feels alive just for the moment that he's doing it.
How's that sound for an explanation? |

| Stars – Going, Going, Gone Lyrics

The lyrics of this song are pretty straight-forward:
Cellophane: It's see-through. It's used to portray how the narrator is set on spending money, which doesn't matter, on things that are empty and also don't matter. She could be spending her money on anything, and it wouldn't make a difference. Shoes, purses, dresses, makeup, drinks... it doesn't change her, its just a clear layer that goes over her. She's trying to find a quick fix to her situation by spending money on these things, but no matter how pretty it makes her look she's still no happier. She's constantly trying to make herself more attractive because she feels ugly inside, but this constant attention on making herself look better leads her to become self-centered, which is probably why the relationship described in the song has gone south. She thinks the relationship went south because she wasn't pretty enough. My personal opinion is that it probably went south because she was so obsessed with how she looked all the time. Catch 22 much?
It's kind of interesting hearing the Nightsongs version versus Sad Robots. Having Torquil sing the 2nd verse validates the male's perspective in the relationship, but adds a new dynamic to the story. It also makes it sound like she's moved on from him and is with a new boyfriend, with whom she still feels as empty. It makes it sound like in the 1st verse she's singing to her new boyfriend, but he's ignoring her, hence these cries for attention. Instead, he just turns his back and leaves (going going gone). Then her old boyfriend, Torquil, has given up and is singing to her, but she can't hear him. This puts the 3 characters in a stalemate (There is nowhere to move on).
I like the imagery of clear things too. The cellophane, the gin and lime (I immediately think of gin and tonic with a lime on the rim) just seem so hollow, and boring. There's no color to it, it's not even black or white. Personally, I think people like this girl in the song, or the guy she's currently with are boring as well. It's still a really freakin cool story and awesome song! |

| Bell X1 – Bad Skin Day Lyrics

The bad skin day is a day when nothing just feels right, and you just let yourself get completely wrapped around that fact to the point where you're convinced that nobody has ever felt this bad before ("I'm a poor soul of Pompeii"). Then reality kinda strikes and he realizes how melodramatic he's being ("Oh Christ I'm such a drama queen"). But he still wants to keep people at a distance so they don't see him like this. I know I get this way when I feel like I'm not working towards something, or contributing in some way ("It feels like we're always waiting. It feels like we're never leading"). I just sit around, not really knowing what to do, just waiting and keep doing the same thing in hopes that something will change or I'll figure out what to do/where to go next in life. When that day happens it'll all be better ("Someday we'll all wear a crown") |

In Homer's "The Odyssey" the sirens are voices that call out to a ship's captain in a really treacherous set of waters and make him fall in love and get distracted from captaining the ship because he's in a love trance, and a he crashes his ships into the rocks where his crew drowns and gets eaten by a sea monster. |
