| the title "whale and wasp" is an ironic take at how grief and sadness don't discriminate | |

one of AIC's very finest... not trying to be too much of a philosophizer here (instrumental songs correctly should be very open for interpretation), but this song definately has a funeral/severe mourning vibe to it... yet every time i try typing to elaborate/explain my interpretaiton of the song, it comes out stupid/not what i'm trying to say. but somehow, when you listen to it, you get it i guess the best way i could describe listening to this song would be like seeing a seemingly unstoppable force completely paralyzed by greif and agony: something seemingly so unphaseable just completely rocked at the core with seemingly unredeemable sorrow. |

| This could certainly be about when a close friend or relative is dying, maybe in a comma, maybe dead, and you want them to respond, to be alive, but they obviously can't, so you blame them (certain people probably react this way at certain stages of the grieving process). | |

I think it might have something to do with some sort of oppertunity that has been presented to you but that has burned you in the past (a girl, job, or something else that requires you investing a lot of your money/trust/heart/etc). You think this one might be the one, but you are afraid of putting yourself on the line because you have been burned in the past when you have put yourself out on the line. this "oppertunity" is something that you really badly want and need, and you're looking for a sign that this time it is the one you've been waiting for. ambiguous I know, but I don't think the song is moping about the past as much as reflecting on it and looking towards the future and what to do now. |
