Eric Clapton – Cocaine Lyrics 3 years ago
isnt that the beauty of songs, i can really read this as a solution or something to try out.
ive never touched drugs though and i wont
but postively read interpretation could be cocaine can have some positive but we should not take drugs to get that but get it another way

If you want to hang out, you've gotta take her out, cocaine
-> to take someone out,

If you want to get down, down on the ground, cocaine
-> if you want to have sex,

She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie
Cocaine
-> our animal nature

If you got bad news, you want to kick them blues, cocaine
When your day is done, and you want to run, cocaine
-> dont dwell over bad things, but of course you gotta face them

She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie
Cocaine

If your day is gone, and you want to ride on, cocaine
-> ride is sexual language, day is gone is telling us to be young
Don't forget this fact, you can't get it back, cocaine
-> be young

Bright Eyes – Hot Knives Lyrics 18 years ago
I was looking for a good interpretation for this song, and decoratedemergency9 presents the one that is most true to me. It makes sense that the mistress is the one "on guests performing miracles".

I would like to add something that should fit into your interpretation though:

"'When I do wrong, I am with God,' she thought"
this is what she is actually thinks when she is performing the miracles which is to relief grateful men with sex. She Follows her God and sees no bad things resulting in her breaking the norms. She thinks she is with God and that creates a good feeling in her. She loves a man freely without blinding him with kindness and forcing a ring on his finger, and men are often grateful for such offerings.

"When I feel lost, I am not at all"
is refering to what she feels when she is not actually performing the miracles. only performing the miracles makes her think she is with god, everything else is numbness. feelinglessness
even though jesus is just a common criminal in her life she might still jugde herself for doing theese miracles when she is not actually doing them, and thereby adding her feeling lost. also she might feel lost because she only performs miracles on men but it is still an unending ache to her that none of them are permanently in her lift.

torn aside by theese feelings she must seeks something new. she has gained freedom by breaking the norms and following her god, and now she will use that freedom the dream other's dreams

I could also give up my interpretation and admit as other people suggest that:
"When I do wrong, I am with God,"
is referring to her thinking of the irony in it all. and it makes it even more ironic that she actually is performing miracles by pleasing some men.

"Oh, I’ve made love, yeah, I’ve been fucked, so what?"
means that she just fucking moves on. nobody can confront her and think they are worth more by saying she is a whore, because she is just like "so what". she lives an honest life has a firm meaning about her past life and maybe has a network of people who accepts her or are similar to her.
