I'm guessing this song is an allusion to excessive drinking and how it can wile away your money. "I can tell you've been drinking by the scent of your breath. Another little sip, a bit deeper in debt." it can also allude to how drinking can make you (if you let it control you that is) an empty husk or a shell of your former self. "Though your gut lies filled, only shells remain" probably take from a perspective of a bartender. "I see it everyday." The odd reference to the yggsdrasil (world tree) i don't really get how it ties in to the song. |

the crane reference i think is from Ibycus the poet. not sure i'm citing wikipedia but here is what i found. this one is pulling some of the popular cliche phrases of American culture. As well as greek influence 'lethean grazer' 'chimera' 'somnambulate' all seem to come up in as american hobbies. For instance Lethean Grazer: River Lethe are fascination with Dante's view of heaven and hell. Chimera can be either a dog breed which supports America's love for dogs. Somnambulating: sleep walk well that's the way some people live life. the para phrasing of "double double toil and trouble" seems appropriate because well we love halloween and hokey other traditions. i some what agree with adombomb on the meaning. yet being a hunter and a Serj fan puts me in a humorous point. following not only family tradition but the respect for nature instilled from scouting and living in a rural landscape. I know what he's getting at, the Tao and Zen/one to me stands as being connected to nature. and knowing how to be responsible in dealing in such events. if only deer or Antelope could drive and hunt humans, then the challenge would truly interesting. though for now i'll focus on conservationism and the ancient tradition of thanking the the spirit of the animal for it's sacrifice. something i know not many follow nowadays |
