Television – Friction Lyrics 18 years ago
Haha, yes I like the wordplay too... I prefer the one in "Careful" though "when you whisper, in my ear, it goes so hard, gets so hard, oh, it gets so hard... to get out of bed".

This song, as envika says, has more to it though. It's a coming of age type thing, or so I interpret it. A lot of Television seems to be themed around in limbo states and the tension (friction) that arises from them, in this case, youth and adulthood.

yes, perhaps deceptively so... maybe thats because i thought he was saying "world" instead of "war". He could be playing on this homophone... he does this quite a lot, I had a completely different set of lyrics in my head for "There's a Reason".

I think it can be applied to life in general, like trying to escape, or at least recognising, the eternal recurrence of things, not drifting to far from your own groundings due to arrogance or over-confidence. I perhaps he just really likes elevators, i dunno, the elevator did "call him up" after all.

hey guttorm, i think you may be right... and it makes the song even more perfect, i never did get "tight toy night", beyond purely the rhythm of it. I agree with those saying it's their favourite song...

Television – Prove It Lyrics 18 years ago
This means pretty much the same as "I might be wrong", it's about a guy who has practically devoted his life to finding some tangible philosophy, but the impossibility of objectivity. It's all angsty and stuff :( But i like it :)

Television – Little Johnny Jewel Lyrics 18 years ago
Also best riff ever and best improvisation ever. The bit with the reggae twangs, you know - after the riff quiets a little at around 4 mins in, "doo doo doo DUH-DUH x DUH-DUH x DUH-DUH doo doo doo", that's awesome.

One of my favourites... I read it as a story, or hypothetical anecdote, relating to a guy who has removed himself from the usual flow of life in search of his own ideal (his 'vision'), and his dedication to representing this in some way. The final verse is like a secret understanding of this guy, like Tom knows that there is something more profound or worthwhile in what Johnny is doing/thinking. IMFO.
