Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The thing I think about is this - there's a Three Days Grace song called "Pain". The lyrics in the beginning go like this. Pain, without love, Pain, I can't get enough, Pain, I like it rough, 'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all. Juxtaposition that viewpoint with the lyrics from Modest Mouse's "The View". If Life's not beautiful without the pain, Well I just would rather never ever even see Beauty again. (And as Life gets longer, awful feels softer and it... Feels pretty soft to me.) That being said, this is the pessimist view of Modest Mouse at, in my opinion, its finest. Every time I see the lyrics for this song, they always miss this line: "I'm feeling this Positive, Negative, Positive, Negative." It's like when something really good happens to you, for example, like meeting a really cute girl. But then you realize there's no way in hell you have a chance at being with her, so you feel amazing every time you see her but right after there's that realization at the same time, that makes you feel shitty again. It's like a .... Positive, Negative, Positive, Negative. When you get to this point, you'd rather feel nothing. You want to feel good, but you don't want to feel shitty, and you know they go with each other, so you do nothing. You want to go to sleep so you won't feel like shit the next morning, but you don't want to stop watching that late-night special because there's freedom in being able to go to sleep when you feel like it. At that point, you've probably already exhausted the attempt at going to your friends for comfort, because people, in general, are predictable. You know what they'll say, they'll know what you'll say. Not worth it. Comes from experience, I guess. Great song. |
Broken Social Scene – It's All Gonna Break Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The whole song is fantastic. To me, its about how people think music can be our savior, can inspire us, etc. (just as this one does!) but it's, in the end, just music, made by humans, so its nothing special, or at least it's only as special as you want it to be. The brass at the end?? Brilliant. I love how when the singer screams (gonna BREAK!) he does it so that its ACTUALLY IN TUNE! It sounds amazing. I love those parts. It's awesome. New fave BSS song. |
Broken Social Scene – Windsurfing Nation Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Why is it that whenever I read lyrics to BSS there's always an advertisement asking "How Gay Are You? Like Gay Music? TAKE THE QUIZ!" Kind of ...invading. I hate the private sector so much. Anyway. Windsurfing Nation... to me its about finding your place in life. Going where the wind takes you doesn't really cut it. Everyone is following their own wants, needs, every country follows their own best interests, and thats exactly what is expected by everyone else. Cheap thrills - drugs, roller coasters, etc. are the style of life and BSS clearly disagrees with it. Thats what I got out of it. pe@ce. |
Broken Social Scene – Hotel Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is fantastic. The first part where the brass comes in, blaring... this song = sex. "I think you'd like your life, when you came down." "I like the lights that don't turn you to face it all." |
Broken Social Scene – Swimmers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, other than Hotel, by BSS as well. As much as it makes me feel good, because it's just a fantastically written piece of work... I feel bad because I regret that there has been a circumstance where I was the Swimmer. ...rather... I am the swimmer. (Anthem for a 17 year old.. boy.) |
