The first few words that popped into my head when I first heard this song were, "this sounds a whole lot like Art Garfunkel." I got to listening and the tone and the way the song is mixed sounds a lot like 99 Miles From L.A. by Art Garfunkel. Both songs start out very mellow and near the middle/end of the song, they both add orchestras/some instrumental stuff and at the end they both go back to being soft and mellow (kind of, Chris ends on a more mellow note than Art because 99 Miles ends by fading out). Anyways, while comparing 42 and 99 Miles, I also recognized the piano part in the beginning and it sounds almost exactly like John Lennon's song Imagine. I wonder if the two were influences? I read some other comments and don't think it sounds anything like Muse, and I guess I could see similarities from Pink Floyd, but I'm not sure which songs. |

Chris has been writing songs wayyyyyyyyyyy before Plans. He even sings a few songs on Death Cab's album "You Can Play These Songs With Chords", and it's absolutely magnificent. this song is lovely. |
