The phrase "do a 180" isn't a specifically British one. We use it in America, too. It basically means "to turn around and go in the opposite direction" or make a "U-turn." It has to do with degress, like a 360 degree turn is a turn all the way around and landing in the same place you were, whereas a 180 degree turn would only be turning halfway around the circle but leave you facing the complete opposite direction. I think when Amy uses it, she means that when she catches herself falling into the trap of thinking about her ex-guy, she makes a conscious effort to completely change tracks mentally, or "do a 180" ;) |
