I think this song is about cheating. The "you" is the cheatee, and the "her" is the girlfriend. I feel this way because several of Damien's songs seem to be about cheating. Maybe that's just what I see because I've been cheated on hahaha. But I think it fits alarmingly well. I lobe how his songs may sound happy or beautiful but upon examining the lyrics they're actually quite dark. I also love how he seems to throw a ruining line into some of the more romantic love songs. For instance, in The Blower's Daughter, he repeats "I can't keep my mind off of you, I can't keep my eyes off of you." etc, and at the very end, almost inaudible unless you're paying attention, as if he's throwing it in as an afterthought, "until I find someone new." That TOTALLY ruins the feel of the song, but I love it because it brings a very raw truth home to you. ALso, someone mentioned in a post that this song is like a sequel to The Blower's Daughter, which I feel further supports my position on the cheating element of this song, mainly by the aforementioned line of "till I find someone new." perhaps the "you" in this song is the new person. His music is so real and I think that's another reason I am so attracted to it. Another example is my favorite song by him, I Remember. "nothing is taking me down... Except you my love." it's such a beautiful song to start and it really emulates well the feeling of "shiny new lover syndrome" that we experience at the start of a relationship. Then -again as almost an afterthought- he throws in that ruining line. It truly is excellent.

The Dresden Dolls – The Gardener Lyrics 16 years ago
Those lyrics are not incorrect, and it's not about sex.

On the new release of No, Virginia, the lyrics are completely different of that, but that is an early version of the song. If you pay attention, a lot of Amanda's songs are completely different from the original writings. Artists constantly work on and change songs and Amanda said it herself: She can't always remember the lyrics to her songs and often switches parts around or puts in different words.

Regina Spektor – Genius Next Door Lyrics 16 years ago
it seems like 'genius' might also be a sarcastic term. everyone's whipsering that they know what's going on and they have their funny ideas of what it might be, but
'Didn't care as long as he was able
To strip his clothes off by the dumpster
At night while every one was sleeping
And wade midway into that poridge
Just him and the secret he was keeping'

seems to indicate that perhaps he had created the 'enchantment' (or at least thought he had) and didn't care what went on as long as he had the comfort of going back to what he'd created it. to me it spoke of a man alone/in his own world
