| I like what Posten said. I think it's someone in college that has no idea what they want to be when they grow up so they are wandering around aimlessly. | |

This song describes exactly how my life is currently. There just seems to be no purpose because there's no one to share successes (and failure) with. Oh no, another bad day, waste of promises Are we really getting near? Kick off your work shoes, rest a little There's nothing for you to prove. The character just keeps having bad days and is tired. There's not much for him/her to look forward to. Is it funny or is it sad? We leave and enter on our own Is it funny or is it sad? We never really know anyone Someone realizes how pathetic their current life is. Realizing how much they need it to change even though it seems impossible (never really know anyone) I'm telling you my only secret I'm so lonely, she said I'm waiting for a hero to save the day A heaviness so relentless An emptiness so monumental I'm waiting for a hero to save the day The main character seems to have no one close to them and they finally tell someone their "only secret" that they are lonely and miserable. It seems as if only a "hero" can fix the current situation. Across the sea I can hear you're tired What is there left to see? The character is tired of living the way they do. They've seen all that miserable side of life has to offer. Smash of keyboard into their faces A silence so satisfying The main character just wants to punch someone or shut someone that annoys them up. I can understand why you left your home I can understand The main character sees someone that is truly happy and understands how they live that way. 'Cause we're twenty, twenty, twenty-two Bleeding stars, stars and happy thoughts 'Cause we're twenty, twenty, twenty-two Waiting for the rain, the rain to stop Someone else telling the main character that they're both young and have potential. They just have to wait for their problems to work out (wait for the rain to stop) 'Cause I'm a boy and you're a girl And what else is there in this world? I can make you smile, I can make you laugh What else is there in this world? So true. So true. So take my hand and marry me I'll make your branches sprout a-green I can make you smile, I can make you laugh What else is there in this world? Someone reaching out to help the main character after the main character tells them his/her problem (in the chorus) And if you take my hand I'll lead you to the promised land Just call in sick Our time is now I've got so much love to give A vessel to receive it Take the day off work Our time is now, our time is now I love how the song ends on that last chord. The final line seems to be a happy ending or the beginning of something good for the once miserable main character. FAVORITE BLOC PARTY SONG EVER! |

I think this song is about trying to be new and different. Basically Bloc Party feels as if people are trying too hard these days to be innovative. "If it can be broke then it can be fixed, if it can be fused then it can be split It's all under control If it can be lost then it can be won, if it can be touched then it can be turned All you need is time" Basically saying all these things that have already been discovered saying that so much time has passed that we as the human race have discovered so much. "We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?" I'm not quite sure here. I guess they're saying that we have to find ways to control ourselves. "A sense of purpose and a sense of skill, a sense of function but a disregard" Saying that people naturally have the ability to discover things. "We will not be the first, we won't You said you were going to conquer new frontiers, Go stick your bloody head in the jaws of the beast" Saying that we won't be the first to discover new things. "Breath in, breath out" Take a break. Stop trying so hard. "So here we are reinventing the wheel I'm shaking hands with a hurricane It's a colour that I can't describe, It's a language I can't understand" I love this part and the next part. "So here we are reinventing the wheel" means that we think we're doing such great things but in reality, they've already been done hence the RE in reinventing. "Ambition, tearing out the heart of you Carving lines into you Dripping down the sides of you" After Kele says "ambition" I can't stop smiling. One of my favorite lines in all of Bloc Party. Basically saying how some people live purely to find new things to the point that ambition is "tearing out the heart" of them and "dripping down the sides" of them. |

| Toadtws, that was because you heard the version that they played on Radio One...that whole thing was advertising, not part of the song. | |
