its kinda self-explanatory. a guy is in a relationship with a woman, and they've been off and on over the years. know he's finally ready to declare his true love to her and make a commitment but she doesn't believe him and won't accept him back. |

first time i heard it, i thought it was a song about a guy who's dating this eccentric girl. because of the odd things she talked about (like the "moon don't hang quite as high as it used to" part), she felt lonely and had this sensation that the rain would come and clean her, make her a "better" person. |
